My rear seat base is loose and from what I can tell the bolts to tighten are under the carpet. Anyone know a way other than cutting the carpet to tighten this thing up ?

I haven't looked at mine but shouldn't you be able to get to the hardware on the underside if you go in thru the bilge area?

Screws come in from the top or appear to. Couldn't feel bolts or screw head from the bottom and sure couldn't see one
I have the same issue with my 08 i.
You are correct, they come in from the top and under the carpet. We were able to get some to tighten through the carpet. Not sure the guys tricks in the shop, but do know they did it. I'm thinking they held the top and tightened slowly.
Skeeter did no put big enough nuts and bolts in the rear seat base. Items u will need to fix it. Acetone, 3M spray adhesive glue in spray can, pot rivet gun, jigsaw and a base plate that will fit over the existing hole. U can find at any marine supply store. Pour acetone on carpet between livewell lids. Pull. Carpet up. Take jigsaw and cut out existing hole where your new base plate will fit in. Pot rivet in new base plate. After acetone has dried spray 3M glue on backside of carpet and your done. Sounds like alot but after tearing into mine twice, I never did again. The base plate sticks up about 1/4 of an inch but not that noticeable. Hope this helps.
I'm sure glad this was posted!! Mine pedistal is also loose. I figured the base is broken, as the screws have locknuts on them. Did you soak and remove the entire carpet on that piece? You don't have a picture of the new base by any chance do you???? Or can you locate what you used on the web?
I soaked the carpet from rear to front and only pulled up enough that I needed to put the plate flush. The plate is made by springfield and u can find it in the bass pro catalog. The new plate did not have the screw in piece though. Be careful when u use the jigsaw. I put a little 1 buy 6 piece of wood under the corner of the jigsaw to raise the blade up. Blade kept hitting and bottoming out on transom bracket support system.
Just get a philups screw driver and use it in top, don't remover carpet, just push it thru carpet, get a 7/16 socket and 1/4 drive racket to tighten up, nothing to it. Done alot this way and you could never tell they had been done.
Yeah I did that twice but the crappy design let's the bolts and nuts loose after a while. If u could get them out and use lock tight that would be great but u can't. I just tired of fooling with it so that's why I put a new base in it.
So there are nuts on the bottom or where do I need the socket at ? Didn't see or feel any when I was looking "upside" down in the bilge area but it's not easy to get to. Appreciate the help. thks
I just tightened my bolts this last weekend.I think there is 5 screws.the nuts are tucked up in the lower base just feel around..pillips driver,10 mm deep socket.no need to pull carpet just tuff to find the screws, long reach from the bottom with socket and somebody holding the screw head up top.its tuff but can be done.Hopes this helps

I gently lifted the carpet around the hole enough to be able to see the phillips screws, then I used a nail to poke through the carpet so I could get a screw driver in.. I had someone hold a ratchet on the nuts as I tightened the screws.

I am looking for help in repairing a loose seat base on a 2002 zx225. It is the back seat base that was loose. I had to cut back the carpet back to get to the top screws . I replaced the the screws and nuts with new ones. What is the best way to cover / restore the carpet around the base. I hope I did not do to much damage. If I had to re-carpet the piece that the base is mounted to, how do you remove it ? Thanks100_0047.jpg100_0048.jpg100_0050.jpg
I would think a little contact cement should get you fixed up.
