    Trim tab for V6 gearcase

    Hi,

can someone explain pros and cons of replacing a trim tab (part# 0338742) with a cover (part# 0336284)?

Background is I broke my tab on my 2000 175 ficht and need to replace it. Came to think about my old 1991 175 Intruder that didn't have the tab. I guess this cover was there instead. Since I never bother to adjust the trim tab and often run the engine high on the jackplate, I guess the tab has minor effect on steering (also have hydraulic steering). Opinions?

If you looked closely at the tab there is a water passage machined into it. The purpose of that is to aim a spray of water at the prop hub helping to keep the hub from burning up. If you don't use a pressed in hub then the point is moot, but if you do use a pressed in hub you should run the torque tab.

I'm aware of the water intake and cooling purpose. How about the cover plate, i have a vague memory of some kind of intake on that cover as well, could this be true? Can't find a picture of the cover.

Anyways, as long as I don't spin rubber hubs I'm ok without the tab? Currently I spin FloTorq or T-loc hubs.

Does anyone have a picture of a cover (part# 0336284) to post?

Thanks for your input, ChampioNman and Stratos268v!

Yes, I know that is the part.

What I'm trying to find out here (which ChampioNman might already have answered between lines, I'm not sure) is if this part, the cover, provides a water intake as well, although not in the tab of course, but some kind of pickup through an opening (scoop?) in the cover plate?

No Magnus the cover is solid no intake or outlet. The original tab only has an outlet to cool the hub.
