    skeeter trailer help!

i know this probably belongs in the trailer section, but it is a skeeter trailer so.....this is my first break away boat trailer and was bought in 05. it has NEVER been used. so the other day i decided to pull the pin to see if i could fit my boat in my garage. NO DICE! the dang thing is in there solid. i can turn it to the right and left, but it wont lift. the boat has been kept at the lake and trailered very little, but im thining that grooves have been worn in the pin and its stuck. any ideas/advice would be appreciated.

I would first spray some Knock-a-Loose juice on it and let it sit for a min. Then, try having someone shake the tongue while you shake or twist the pin trying to pull the pin out. If it still wont come out try tapping (not pounding) it with a hammer. Once it is out I would look to see if the pin is damaged and look at replacing it.

juiced it, tapped and and have there has been some pounding (most out of anger). its the craziest thing, i can wiggle and jiggle the tongue but the pin just wont pull up. looking like im gonna go to work on it with a pair of pliers and a blow torch, about to get mid-evil....

Did you pull the hitch pin out of the bottom ? I would think if there is play in the tounge and you can turn the pin, it would easily come out with a little persuasion from a hammer.

That's what I have to do with mine. Grab near the coupler and lift up while pulling the pin out.

I pull my pin everytime I put it in the garage. Each time I have to lift up on the tongue to remove the pin

    +1 more.

I actually pull up on the 'tongue step pad'. Too much pressure and it will bind the other way.

You are releasing the winch prior to attempting to pull tongue,as well as bottom pin and brake quick connect?

Re: skeeter trailer help! (EL Skeeter)

bow strap is undone. PIN IS REMOVED! and i have lifeted and torqued it everyway imaginable. the dang tongue will wiggle so much you'd think the pin would just slide right out, but it wont. when i turn the pin to the right the tongue tightens up (wont wiggle) and when i turn it to the left it loosens. thats why im afraid is has worn a groove.

    Re: skeeter trailer help! (gofish24)

I just looked at mine. & if yours is the same, I think the problem is that the welds on the sleeve, that the pin goes thru have broken. There is a sleeve welded between the top of the channel & bottom, on the trailer part of tongue. The pin is frozen into that sleeve. When you turn the pin you are also turning the sleeve.

It sounds as if the pin is bent. If the strap is loose, you turn it one way and the pin tightens and when turned it the other way it loosens it sounds as if the pin is bent.

there was a sleeve inside the tongue of the trailer that i think it was rusted inside of. the sleeve is not welded and turns which is why i was able to move it. loaded it with wd40 and finally able to knock it out!

    Re: skeeter trailer help! (gofish24)

Glad you found it. The sleeve should have been welded. A couple welds on the inside of the tongue & you'll be fixed.

i would have thought it would have been welded, but i can slide it completely out. there are no marks on it where it was welded!!!
