95 Skeeter 190ZX - Best way to wire a 36V Trolling Motor

Hey guys,

I know there have been other inquiries re: this subject, but I hae yet to find an answer to my specific issue.

I have a 95 Skeeter 190ZX that is set up for a 24V system. I have 3 6guage (2 Hot, 1 Grnd) going to the front (into what looks like a block, that the trolling motor is set up with) trolling motor from the back. The back is set up like this, onboard charger (2 bank) into the back panel (with 30Amp circuits X2) then to the batteries and then to the front.

This may sound confusing, sorry for that.

What is the best way to convert this to a 36V system? I know I could run the batteries in series and only use one of the hot wires that go up to the front, but I'm worried that because there are 2 Hot wires going up there now that if I changed it and only used 1 6 guage wire that it would over heat.

Should I do as I mentioned and only run one set of wires after putting the batteries in series?

Should I run another Hot wire up front and try and find a block that will go from 3 Hot wires to 1 out to the trolling motor?

Suggestions?

6 Gauge is plenty big enough to handle the load. I would would use the existing wire and do the jumpers in the back.

I have a 1994 200ZX which I would think was wired like yours. I went to a 36v TM and wired it by placing batteries in series as you suggested. The only problem I encountered was tripping my circuit breakers (40 amp) when running on high or high bypass. I had to upgrade to 50 map breakers.

Regarding the 2 hot wires going to the front, I think you will find one to provide 24v and the other provides 12v to the block. Once you go to 36v, make sure one is providing 36v and the other is providing 12v, if you plan to provide 12v power to anything (which mine doesn't).

Bandit, this is exactly what i needed to know. I don't see a need to use the 12V on the switch so it would just be 36V and off to charge. Were you circuit brakers mounted on the back panel? If so where did you find the round 50 or 60 Amp breakers?

So just to be clear, all you had to do was add another battery, wire them in series, and upgrade your circuit brakers to ? and everything works fine?

My circuit breakers are located on the run/charge panel located in the battery compartment. I have a 3 bank CSI built in charger, so I never use the run/charge switch. The switch simply places the batteries in series when in the run position and places the batteries in parallel if you were to charge your batteries by plugging a charger in the run/charge panel, which it appears you do not. So all you would have to do is simply add a 3rd battery and wire it in series. It would be done most simply by wiring the 3rd battery in between the 2 existing batteries. You would do this by placing a jumper from battery 1 neg to battery 2 (new added battery) neg and another jumper from battery 2 neg to battery 3 (old battery 2) pos.

I got my upgraded circuit breakers from BH Electronics (original supplier) located in Atoka, Tenn. Sorry I don't have their number, you will have to look it up on their website.

When I replaced the circuit breakers, since I do not use the run/charge feature, I removed the circuit to make things more simple. When you remove the run/charge panel, you can figure out how the switch/wiring works
