    Speed water Pickup?

Does anybody know where the Speedo water pickup is located? I have a 2007 225ZX, the speed odmeter does not work and wondering if it is on the yamaha foot or located somewhere else on the boat. It didn't work since I have on the boat since Jan. of this year. Could it have been disconnected when the water pump was replaced?

The speedo water pickup is on the leading edge of your lower unit. The most typical problem is a tiny piece of trash (usually wood) clogging up the hole. Take a tiny drill bit and use your hand to work the drill in drilling out the wood.

If your hole isnt clogged, check to see that your hose is connected to the gauge. There will be a barbed connector about 1-2 ft from the gauge. Mine used to blow off all the time, even with electrical tape all over it. Being that the speedo isnt accurate and I get tired of unclogging the hole on the motor, I just disconnected the hose and capped it, also dont have to worry about it freezing in the winter now.

Thanks, I checked it and it seems to be pluged. I will try to run a drill bit with my fingers. Do you know how deep I can run the bit before it bottoms out?

should only go about an inch. you might even have some water drain out like I did

Most likely you will drill out the 'wood' very slowly when doing it with your fingers. It will go just a fraction of an inch and then usually (the length of that tiny tube) it will 'come through'. When it does, generally water comes out and the drill bit 'slides' the full ~1" into the lower unit til it 'hits' the back of the cavity in the lower unit.

Glad to hear it sounds like a easy/cheap fix.

Forget about the speedo and use your GPS. The speedos are always wrong, and after your next trip it will be plugged up again anyway.....
