I am teetering on getting a ZX200 or a 188 VS Ranger. I'm replacing my Triton 186. I've never fished out of a Skeeter. Would love to hear some pros and cons. Wondering how the dura bility of the trailer and lids on the boat are over the long haul.

Between those 2, I would go with the Skeeter. Longer and faster and the ride will probably be better. I've ridden in a z19 Ranger and the ZX200 was better than it, in my opinion but could be the driver of each.
I say the Skeeter but then again I am a little biased.I love my zx200 but have not ridden in a 188 so I can't say anything about them, although Ranger does make a hell of a boat.
I have riden in a 188 quite a bit and it was good boat and I wouldnt call it a bad choice. I think a Skeeter gives you better bang for the buck than a Ranger and the ZX200 would probably run faster and ride better.

I'd say skeeter also. Look at both companies current financial situation, Look at the compartment locks, transom construction and of course the local dealer. do your own comparison and buy what you are comfortable with.

I second that. The skeeter is gonna ride much better in the rough stuff. I havne't spent much time fishing in a zx 200 but I do love the way my 185 ranger fishes. I'm sure the skeeter is just as good.
If it were me I would choose the skeeter, and that's from a Ranger owner
I had owned 2 Rangers previously, and I looked at the same boats as you are looking at, along with the 198VX when I bought my ZX200 in January of 2008.
I went with the Skeeter. The ZX200 is almost a foot longer than the 188, rated for a 200, comes with a factory installed 12" manual jackplate and several other advantages. The sponsons on a Skeeter allow you to come off plane with little or no water coming over the stern, and so you don't need a splashwell and it's a dry ride in rough water. I also like the compartment lids and latches more on the Skeeter. I have had no complaints after over 2 years.
Everything I've heard about the new Yamaha 4 strokes SHO engines is good also if you go that way.
I would make sure I got a tandem axle trailer, and I believe most of the 2010 trailers are channel with the armor coating instead of paint (wish I had one!!). I have called EZ Loader a couple of times, and their customer service is very good!! If you need parts, they will mail them to you the same or next day.
I sold my Ranger 188 and bought a Skeeter ndue to the problems with the trailer on the Ranger. I loved the boat but the trailer was junk. It towed awful and the axle actually broke out from under mine!

I made my decision and I went with the ZX200 its a federation championship boat, lots of bells and whistles w/ 200 hdpi and tandem trailer.
Thanks for the input

You've might the right decision. You will love that boat.![]()
Skeeter with out a single doubt. Feels much bigger, much more room, much faster, and over all just a better boat. The zx200 is much more of a 20 ft. boat then a 188.
