Painting battery trays

I posted this in restoration to but since it is related to a Skeeter I though I'd put it here too.

I had to replace a battery and though since I had everything out it would be a good time to claen up my trays.

It appears the originals were primed in a white then top coated in black. Anybody know what kind of paint they used that is resistant to battery acid. I'm guessing good old rust oleum would peel off as soon as it got a mist for recharging.

I would think good old automotive spray undercoating material would work fine (the rubberized spray). Or if you wanted to spend a few more bucks, Line-X or similar.

Hi Mike the 1988 skeeter I still own has plastic trays so did my 95 so I didn't have this problem if I was you I might try some kind of tough coat or rhino liner and this might not happen again make sure you clean the trays and get all the lose paint off before applying, good luck hope this helps

Mike stop @ any Harley dealer and pick up a can of black wrinkle finish engine case spray paint.

There is a special paint for it that is widely used by aircraft. Try Aircraft Spruce and Specialty.
