    Perko Latches

I apologize if there is another post relating to this but I have been unable to locate it.

Has anyone installed the Perko latches and have some pictures they can post? I have a 2005 TZX200 that I have thout about installing them on.

    Thanks

what do you have on your boat now?

I just upgraded my boat to the newer style T-ring Chrome latches from the old plastic D-ring style.

I don't know what there are called but they have the cut-out on the side of the lid. I am sure someone else knows what they are called and hopefully can let me know. Here is the best pic I have of the deck right now... maybe you can tell what I am trying to describe.

Oh, ok...just out of curiosity....why would you want to change from those? I like them better than any of the other style...

Mine came already with the holes since it had the older style Pergo latches so I just put in the new ones (after filing the holes out because they were too snug).

Maybe it is just mine but some of the latches are hard to open. I tried adjusting them but have not found the majic spot to make them easier to open.

Is it hard to push them in, or is it hard to lift the lid. If it's the lid the carpet may be what's making them hard to open. I know on mine for the first little while it was really hard to open some of the lids, as a matter of fact my rod lockers are still a two hander on opening them. If the latch is hard to push in try some white grease on them or a lite oil and keep pushing them till they free up.

I have the same locks and some of the handles are getting hard to push in. My tackle storage box doesnt even lock. It will lock with the key but the mechanism is so far off you can still put the handle and open it. Tried to adjust it but it doesnt matter. IMO, those are some cheap locks.

What about the black locking plastic d-ring style latches? What do you guys use to replace those?

I just replaced my plastic D-ring latches (selling the old ones now) with the T-Ring Chrome style. They look TONS better and have more durability. Got mine from http://www.consumermarine.com. They had the best price and had a coupon code I found online.

Those look nice. Did they fit right in the existing hole? Do all the locks accept the same key? I really only need to replace a couple latches, but it may just be best to replace them all at once.

Yes, they were all keyed the same. They did not fit in the existing hole on my boat. I had to make the hole bigger. Instead of cutting a new hole, I just used a rounded file and filed away until it fit.
