    Lake view mapping online?

I know on navionics you can go online to view lake maps with contours just like at your unit, also have an app to do the same. Is there a place on garmins website to look at their lake maps? It's sure a lot easier scanning a lake on a pc monitor. Also is there an app for our phones?? That would also be convenient thanks!

I copied my Echomap Chirp's maps to my Micro sd card and then use Homeport to view the lake view hd maps on my pc. It's awesome!

Search Garmin LakeVü Lakes. This is a link to help u find which lakes are on the lakevu card and their detail.

Yup, put an SD card in your unit and look in the menu for the option to copy the maps to the SD card. On my 7610 its under Info/User Data/Data Transfer.

Then you can use that SD card to look at the maps in HomePort or you can copy the data to a USB Drive and use that. You cant copy it to the computer though for some silly reason.

If this works, you guys owe me

I don't have my sd card to test so try this. I was able to import street maps with no issues

    - open homeport
    - select 'charts' on the top ribbon bar
    - select 'manage chart products'
    - click the 'unlock regions tab'
    - select 'import' and point it to your sd card with the maps on it

I dont owe you just yet - its asking for an UNLOCK Code file = *.ucx

There is no such file on my SD card anywhere. I also check my back up copy of my Garmin folder and no files like that.

Must be another example of the bias towards Apple programs? Im on Windows of course...

Maybe that works with maps you purchased on an SD card or downloaded? Doesnt seem to work with built in maps.

    Thanks for trying though :)

CS spent quite a bit of time trying to get it to work but finally decided that unlock codes only exist for accessory map cards you have purchased separately. They do not exist for built in maps.

That seems kind of silly to me but we are stuck.

Did you buy those maps separately?

When you say street maps, do you mean the ones from a car GPS unit? How did you find them to import? I would like to see more street details on homeport and that would be very helpful.

it was a map update for my nuvi. i get free lifetime updates. they did think i was crazy for trying to import street maps into homeport though thats really more for basecamp
when i was updating my car unit with garmin express, it gave me an option to save the maps to my computer. it then showed up in homeport

oh well it was worth a shot. Like you I couldnt find any .ucx files, but i did find a bunch of .gma on the lakevu hd ultra card. they didnt do anything though

Troy, I was able to unlock and import the maps from my Nuvi! Very cool. I didnt have to call customer support. The unlock code was already there. After I clicked on every possible option several times, I noticed the code was in the comments section for the map. Not sure exactly how I did it, but it worked!

I was hoping I could see the charts and the street maps at the same time but its still quite convenient being able to switch back and forth easily.

    Thanks for the suggestion!

So it doesn't look like we have the option of viewing Garmin chart maps online. Thats disappointing! I always enjoyed looking at them during break at work.

you can view them you just need to download the maps from your unit to an sd card that you don't mind leaving inserted in your computer

I found the unlock code in the comments section of the map details. You need to highlight the map first or double click on it - maybe. I'm not sure. I just went wild clicking on things and it worked :)
