Replacement Transom Saver

I need to purchase a replacement transom saver for my 2006 ZX200. My question is this - in measuring a transom saver do I measure the overall length of my existing model or is the measurement taken between the two braces to determine the appropriate replacement model? Any advise is appreciated.

I have one but opted to go with the Pro Rule transom saver. I keep the old style in my rod box just incase i misplace the Pro Rule.
