    Rod tie down strap source

Quite a while ago I saw a post on someone who replaced their bungie cord on the rod straps with a urathane type bungie (red I think) that looked really nice. It's about time to replace mine and I need a source for a better than OEM replacement.

    Thanks!

I've never taken a close look, but are those bungee cords pretty easy to replace?? If so, how do you do it? Mine are a bit worn out...

Yes, they are real easy to replace. Just reach in through the rod locker, and under the gunnel. The end is attached to a loop mounted to the gunnel. Takes just a few minutes to replace them.

They call it urethane cord. I looked all over the internet for a month, buddy recomended I look there. I also got some nylon snap hooks, one attaches to the eye in the rod locker, other end I cut the snap off leaving just the hook to hook into the eye on the deck.

I replaced mine with 1/4" bungee cord from Ace Hardware. The 1/4" is a lot nicer to work with than the 3/16" and hold the rods better. It's a little hard to work through the hooks, but it can be done. The stuff is cheap. You can replace all of it for a couple bucks. I don't know why people make this a larger exercise than necessary. My tournament partner spent a week looking for something special for his boat and wouldn't believe that I got better stuff cheaper than he did from Ace Hardware. I stayed with black because I like black, but there are lots of colors. Save the money and buy a some jerk baits.
