    Garmins most affordable GPS unit?

What is there most affordable GPS/Fishfinder combo? I see reviews on the Striker series but they don't have GPS mapping. In you folks opinion which model is best at an economical price??

One of the echomap units. Price will be mainly a matter of screen size.

I don't know what your budget is but I just picked up a Echomap 73 SV at BPS for $550.

It is the 7 inch combo non-chirp model that is being replaced by the chirp model including side view and a full compliment of US maps. Garmin is also providing a free update of Quickdraw Contour Maps which will allow you to map any body of water at no additional cost.

The mapping is what sold me on it versus the new Striker 7 inch model at $500.

Does the Echomap 73 offer side scanning capabilities?

Yes it does..it is the 73sv in which the "sv" stands for sidevu which is Garmins name for side scan.

I just got a Garmin Echomap 73sv and it is amazing...the sidevu is the clearest thing i've ever seen and the mapping is very fast and reliable along with the capability to do quickdraw maps. Just my $0.02

Shove Lowrance up the salesmans ass and tell him to get you a 73SV. If you get Lowrance, you'd have to buy the separate LSS transducer for side scan and buy a Navionics mapping chip for your area. Garmin goes with all US lake maps built in, and comes with everything you need in the box.
