Mine did the same thing last year, cleaned the side of the trailer off. Xpress was happy to charge me for all the replacement components too. Caught the other of their chinese tires just before it would have grenaded this winter. If I had it to do again, I would negotiate the deal for the boat, not including trailer tires. Those cheap tires of theirs are time bombs.

My trailer was a complete piece of s**t. The fenders, steps and even cross supports were all tack welded together. Nothing more than that. So I took it to a local welder and told him to just "go to town" and weld everything properly.

The wiring is going to be your next problem. Wires shorting when the insulation is rubbed where it's laying across sharp bare metal. Wait for it.

Welds on mine broke all the time. Took mine to a local welding shop and they reinforced all the welds...well I thought so until one of the guide bunk welds busted this weekend. Worse thing is I have never touched them loading the boat, so the only thing I can figure it vibration caused the weld to break. Looks like I'll be going back to have those welds re-done also. One kudo I will give the trailer is it tracks true at any speed.

We took a small drill bit to get ALL the rivets out and replaced them with little stainless bolts, washers and nuts.Been good for quite awhile!

Needless to say these backcrap trailers are one of the many sore spots with these boats. BUT most of the issues are not just related to backtrack, u will see the same thing with other mfg's units. I don't really like fixing all this stuff but I am glad I can. CJ

The trailer on my X18 project boat sucked BIGTIME on quality control. Like other guys have posted, it was pretty well just tack welded, and in a few area's not welded at all. When I rebuilt the trailer I completely welded it, and fixed all the crap they should have done. My H51 aluminum trailer has been flawless.

I have an 08 Back Track thats all aluminum. The guides were all breaking off so I had them welded and gusseted. All but one, out of the four, broke off again. I had one stainless one made for each side (1/4 or 3/16") and they only lasted 2 years before they both cracked off (which I couldn't believe). I almost never touched them when loading. Like stated I think the vibration especially on aluminum is what does them in. So I don't run it with guides anymore. I also lost both carpeted inner fender wells. Xpress covered them under warranty the first time. I used four stainless screws with loctite the second time, but they ripped out of the fender after a couple years. I balanced the tires (which weren't very far off perfect to begin with) and that didn't help. All I can think of is that it must be the horrible roads we have up here in Northeast Iowa and Southern Minnesota that makes everything crack and fall apart. I guess to me these are fairly minor fixes and it's just something I'll deal with.

It's not your roads. Backtrack trailers fall apart (or vibrate apart) in every region of the country. I've had a half dozen boats and trailers. Only the Backtrack had multiple (or any) cracked welds, inner fender walls flying off, side guides cracking, exposed wiring from sharp metal edges, etc...

Loved my X-19. Hated that trailer.

Has anyone tried mounting shocks on a Back Track to see if that helps? I saw a couple pictures on the tin forum of a guy doing it to a tracker trailer awhile back. I was interested to see if that would solve the problem? Or at least make a noticeable difference.

Oh hey, I got one for you guys. The rear spring shackle where it pivots was welded too close to the front of the spring on one side of my trailer, so when it was loaded the spring lengthened like it was supposed to do but beings it was too close it cammed over and the spring loop was riding on the frame. So what did the PO do? Drove a piece of walnut between the eye and frame! Guy must have been a woodworker! Wanut, a nice hunk of it too! So ya I have seen a lot with these trailers! CJ

Nice! Walnut no less! It's good to see they're working hard to be more environmentally friendly.

Xpress should change their motto to: "Our boats are wood free, our trailers might not be".
