I'm buying a new trolling motor this year and I'm not sure what size shaft length to get. 45" or 50" It's going on a 1997 Skeeter ZX185c. Thanks......Rich

measure from the Gunwale down to the water line, then add 22 inches, will be really close to what you will need.

If i had it to do over again,(currently have 19.5fter w/ 45" shaft ) when i ordered my boat , id would use the 50-52" long shaft tm, most of the time you dont need the xtra, but if by chance your on the lake an the wind gets up ,the trollin motor doesnt pull out of water hardly at all, (with the 50-52") at say 25+mph wind which help you keep boat poistion, the 45" isnt enough to my likin on a 18fter or larger boats for bigger lakes when wind is up, an boat position is critical, an the 60" shaft is too long fer bassin, those are usually used on bay style boats

Rich,
My Sx 190 came with a 45" MK Edge. That's all you would need. The 50" will come down the gunwale that much further.

I run 42" on all my Skeeter ZX225 or 20i's. Depends on if you fish big water or not. I fish lots of shallow water and like the lower height when I raise my motor.
