Load you're carrying and where it's being carried.
Not all props are created equal.

Load and prop would make a difference, also the way the load is distributed can play a part. I recently ran my boat with a minimal load and characteristics were different than when I am loaded to fish. Also picked up about 2 mph on top end. Have also heard that the molds they use for the boats can have slight differences that may effect set up.

Don't most people usually carry pretty much the same amount of gear? and do you guys really adjust your plate settings all the time, most people would just leave it in the ideal spot.

I would only adjust my jackplate whenever i switch props to get the best performance...
I also have an 05' ZX225 and currently have a T1-27P but it will be sent away this winter to have some work done on it.. it's got a few dings on each blade.
I've got a B&B T1-25P coming which should be a better prop on that boat.

I do carry the same load most of the time. Packed to the gills.
Try to keep between 1/2 and 3/4 for gas.
I can run 70 all day long and have a good hole shot. Plate could probably be dialed in a little closer to perfect, but it runs fine for me.
Running empty with a low fuel load I can push it up to around 73-74 but it starts to get a little too loose for my taste.

I don't see that speed, that's why I ask...
Maybe I just don't push it hard enough, but I top out at 68-69 and feel there isn't much trim left...my rpm gauge shows around 5500-5600, I have a TXP Prop. My jackplate is raised about an inch & 1/2

What pitch prop is it?
My 27P gives me 68-69 all the time but in good conditions i've seen 71-72. I'm also turning around 5500rpm. The B&B T1-25P will give me a few more rpm's and everything i've read so far tells me it's the best option for the 225.
Realistically it's a 74-75mph boat under the best conditions... do some people get a little more.. perhaps...
