Is this a good first boat?

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors....m245

I have heard that smaller boats before 2000 don't handle well, but I just wanted to see what people around here thought. Also what do you guys think this boat is worth? Is skeeter a good brand to start with? I been looking for stratos and javelins too.

    Thanks,

I didnt realize they made a SS 150, I thought they only made a SS 90 and a SS 140 back in the day. Looks a lot like the current SX 190's. It should be a good boat, but of course the only way to know for sure would be to go take it out and see for yourself how it rides and runs before you bid. I dont really have a clue what it would be worth, but I would guess that size boat in that age range should probably be worth maybe $7k-$8k if its in good shape?? but thats just a guess. As far as the handling goes, ya the older Skeeters dont handle as good as the newer ones, but thats not to say they handled bad. Its just the newer designs handle extremely good.

Looks like a great boat. The one thing you need to make sure of is the engine take it to a dealer and have the compression checked .If all looks good on that it would be one to consider. Skeeter makes a fine boat, always has, bear in mind it is a 18.5" boat use it for what is designed for it will work fine. That is not a "big water"boat , but if it fits your budget and interests in a boat go for it, have fun and enjoy it. Be sure to post your boat info when you get it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you're right, at least according to the brochure, no ss150 in 1996.
It actually looks like a ZX
There a SS150 in 97, maybe it was a late 1996 model....the motor is a 97 so there ya go

I am NOT buying this boat from this person. But would love to pick up one like it for around 6K.

I realize this boat is sort of small, but I would think it would work for lakes in the 10-15k acre range. Also on the larger lakes in KY/TN since they are not large open water lakes. With the exception of KY and Barkley. Which I think it would be fine, just need to use some caution and be away of the lake conditions.

Is that unreal for that setup to go 75mph?
I wish it had a yamaha on it, but can't have everything.

What do you guys think of that motor?

Re: Is this a good first boat? (RoughThumbBG)

Most boats that size with a 200 will probably realistically run in the 68-71mph range depending on load. 75 seems a bit extreme. As far as the motor, I cant really tell you anything about it, I've never owned a Merc.
