    2002 SX190 150 VMAX CARBED

I bought this boat a few months back and I love this boat. But I am worryed that I am not turning the correct rpms for this vmax. It has a 25m prop on the 150 and I can only trun it 5200-5300 rpms at wot with 2 people and my gear. No gps but the speedo says 64 I know thats probley more like 59 or 60 but I know the rpms are a correct reading. The boat has a very good hole shot it beats my dads TR18 with a 150 johnson perttty bad. Should I buy a 23m prop and try it out? I do not have a jack plate and the motor is mounted int 2nd hole.

That is what i turn, 23M. My r's are summer time 5600-5800 (56-58 mph gps) and winter i can get up to 6000 r's (62 mph gps). I have never ran a 25 so can't compare. But imagine that it would spin to good with this humid weather down here in the summer.

    I would try a 23M or 23 Tempest.

How high are you running the motor(How far below pad)?

I am running the same rig with a 25M and can pretty consistantly run 5300 @ 60 mph in the summer and 5500 - 5600 @ 63 mph in winter.

From what the others are saying about the 23 M; In my opinion, you want really see better performance (speed), just higher RPMs.

It may actually be better for your engine NOT running higher RPMs.

Hole shot should be very good with the 23, and the engine will not lug so much at WOT.

I have not measured any thing and do not have a jack plate, but it is mounted in the 2nd hole from the top. How do I measure how far below the pad ?

Marsh hit it right on the head, I've ran both 23M and 25M and I really didnt see a performance gain, just a difference in RPM's. Well I guess thats kind of a lie, I would have to say that the hole shot was quicker with the 23, but over all not any difference in speed. But from what everybody has said and everything I have read those RPM's are supposed to be better on your motor since its not lugging around. But I never saw the speeds that Marsh has seen with either props. Best I have ever ran with a M prop was just over 61 GPS and that was cold winter time. I have seen those speeds and faster with different props, but not stock M's.

Re: 2002 SX190 150 VMAX CARBED (Skeeter Jay)

Thanks Jay. I should clarify that 63 gps was a one time event and not consistant. 60-62 is pretty common though.

I am not a prop expert by any stretch, maybe if someone really wants to see what they can get and don't mind spending the money.......how about try a 24 Tempest or maybe one of those new Fury props.

    Talk to the prop experts.

By the way..........adding a jackplate to this boat doesn't seem to make a performance difference either...............just voids your warrenty.

Re: 2002 SX190 150 VMAX CARBED (Marsh Skeeter)

I tell ya, my best all around prop to date is an older 25p Tempest A40 thats been balanced and blue printed, its not the fastest I have ran but its got a good mix of speed and handling. I can run 62 in the summer just myself, runs right at the 60 mark loaded down with a partner and then in the cooler months it will run 63-64 easily just me and over 61 with a partner. I will argue that a plate doesnt do much for our boats, a plate and some time trying props will definetly get you a few more mph. My boat stock with the 23M would only run around 58-59 with just me in it, after I put the plate on and did some height adjustments I was able to run between 60-61 with it in the cold, so I would say that it made a 1-2mph difference with that prop. I wouldnt say that just bolting a plate on really adds a lot, but the combination of it and spending a lot of time running different props will sure make a difference. But the bottom line is if you want to go faster get a bigger boat.. I spent a lot of time and money trying different props on this boat a couple of years ago and it didnt get me but a couple of MPH. If I do anything else for speed it will be selling this one and getting a ZX200
