New Boat - should they come with Trolling Motor Batteries?

I just bought a new 07 SX 190, and the dealer said it only comes with a starter battery. Does this sound correct?

Also, do these boats come with an onboard battery charger?

    Thanks.

I've never bought a new boat, but I would think that trolling batteries would be part of the "Rigging" charge? A Battery charger most likely isn't standard on a SX series.

Wow, can't believe a dealer told you that.
It should come with two trolling batteries as you have a 24volt minnkota more than likely. Also I have never heard of a sx190 not coming with a charging system also. I have a friend with the same boat and I believe his came with a charging system. I would imagine the charger is optional but the trolling batteries should be part of the package.

The boats do not come to us with any batteries at all. With that being said they don't leave without cranking and trolling batteries, unless the customer says they have their own, and then we still install them so we can do all of our quality control checks. As for the charger, it is not standard on the SX, but we do put them in most.

If the boat came with a trolling motor you'd assume that it would come with the batteries too. You could argue that the main motor comes with a battery so the tm should too.

If the trolling motor was added at the buyers request then the dealer may be playing the "that'll be extra" game to keep their margins higher.

I'd argue that it should come with batteries but if you get no joy perhaps bargin to pay 1/2 or something.

I'd be pretty stern. Add batteries or look for another buyer!!!!!

Back in 06 I bought a brand new 06 SX190. It came with 3 batteries. With the SX series boats some things are not standard on the boat. For instance, I had to get the dealer to add these options: Hot Foot, Pro Trim and (Onboard Battery Charger).

No reason they shouldnt of put the TM batteries in the boat, thats freakin crazy. I believe I would take it back and tell them either put the batteries in or I'm backing out of the deal and go find a better dealer. Something else, did they fill up your gas tank and double oil for you?? A guy here at the office just bought a boat a month or so ago and he was telling me that he had to fill his boat up when he left the dealer, I couldnt believe it. I told him he needed to go back and throw a fit but I dont think he ever did. I've bought 2 brand new boats in my life, both had full tanks of gas when I picked them up and both had all the batteries and they both came from different dealers.

Like others said, the onboard charger is an option on the SX, that needed to be negotiated during the deal or it wont come with it.

I would guess that it would come with batteries installed by the dealer. Both boats I have purchased have. If the dealer doesnt give you batteries, dont buy them from that dealership. If you havent bought the rig yet say "No Deal"

If that dealer is gonna short you on batteries I surely hope they are better should you need to use them for any serious service issues. I know dealers need to make a buck but its silly not to have a new boat lake ready when the buyer picks it up. Have a little gas in it and some oil and make sure the batteries are charged and ready to go.

my new boat purchase came with all the batteries , the on board charger was an option on the boat, but the zx models usually come with that, personally i never heard of a new boat not comin with batteries, id stand firm on that deal, unless you got a hell of a steal, i assume that that part of the prep, an riggin charges, they charge you with, i looked into buyin a smaller boat earlier last yr and i opted for a 24v sytem but with a upgraded sytem an x-tra batt where gonna be added to cost

Re: New Boat - should they come with Trolling Motor Batteries? (SKEETERBUG1)

do the boats come from skeeter with batteries : NO
do boats leave from the dealership with batteries : yes

the only reason i would see that they told you that is sometimes when im figuring a very close deal i have to add everything we install: batteries, battery trays, tiedowns, depthfinders , etc.........

but im sure if you get with your dealer they can make everything right.

I never had that done when i bought mine. Now it did come with all 3 batts. which i think was part of the "Rigging Fee". I also had to add an onboard battery charger, but the boat came with a hot foot & trim at the wheel. Just wish they had QC checks. As for gas in a boat yeah right. They did give me a dirty boat with a tank full of oil.

Re: New Boat - should they come ... (chris@airportmarine)

Actually, my first three boats did NOT come with trolling motor batterries (3 different dealers, 2 were Ranger dealers). They all made sure to ask me before leaving with the boat if I wanted to buy trolling motor batterries though. My last 2 dealers included them, but I was on the team deal by then. I don't know what is standard, but if I were a dealer, I would price the boats to include them right from the start; pretty shady to bring it up on your way out in my opinion.

I bought my boat brand new and it came with batts. If it did not have batteries I would have thrown a friggin fit....

I had enough issues with my dealer as it was but I certainly would demand batteries...

SX's do not have charger's standard....

Good luck with the boat and you will enjoy it....
