I am in the market for a new outboard and I was watching etec testimonial videos and I wanted to know why they won't compare it to a Mercury 2 stroke? 2 strokes and 4 strokes are comparable and they won't bring in a merc 2 stroke? Makes me wonder!

Because when those videos were made the other companies were pushing four strokes.
Merc doesn't really want the attention of BRP right now in their infomercials because in the real world of STOCK outboard ski racing the Evinrude 250 H.O. is destroying the Merc 250xs.
It is no contest, so I don't think you are going to see Merc publish any true comparaisons. They are still riding on the coattails of the very flawed BWB 225 shootout. They even lied in their commercials and showed the boats as Tritons when in actuality the boats were Bullets. On a Triton the Merc would have lost but it doesn't stop them from misleading consumers about it.
cool makes sense! what do you guys know about a 2003 HO 225 rude? Good bad ect??
I have one love it. break it in right run sea foam and decarb it yearly keep it cooled right and youll love it. great torque and fast.
Put up the model and serial #s and the guys can look up the warranty history etc. You would want a computer printout to give you an idea how many hours on the engine, rpm profile,etc.....
I've had to do a couple things to my 03 225 but I wouldn't trade it for anything 'cept a new 08 E-TEC!!! Great torque, midrange is awesome, and I have put up 73.4 GPS in my Sprint.![]()

I am not sure I buy that. What I think is that each manufacturer sets these things up to showcase their product. If you think about it, hooking the Etec up against another engine that it can't pull under would make the commercial useless.
Plus I think I could reprop the 4 stroke and make it win. There are more factors to it then just 2 150Hp engines.
just my HO.

You missed the whole point of the ads, the E-TEC was designed to outperform and be more economical overall compared to 4-strokes which every other company was pushing as the "only" emission friendly smoke-free quiet outboard. E-TEC is proving them wrong.
It is already much smoother and very much quieter than any other 2-stroke. They are not into factory sponsored racing, or have a special racing division so that market is not a concern to Evinrude.

If I'm not badly mistaken , hasn't the Mercury 250 ProXS lost it's 3 star emissions rating in Calif.?

If you feel that way but no one here has said anything pro/con about your post. Every manufacture has issues with there motors. If it spins it breaks. If it was a perfect world there would be no mechanics no would there and motors would never break. If you want to stir the pot then go ahead if you want honest answers the by all means ask questions but make them relevant. We have broad shoulders and have survived bankruptcy.![]()

Got you beat - I even owned one![]()
1985 75 hp inline 4 mix-yer-own. Ran the hell out of it for years -- although I did run XD50 thru it

Don't know if I ever could have killed it. Hopefully it still running strong somewhere....
For those that haven't experienced the benefits of running XD50 with its carbX additive thru a motor, it sure helped this one. First few tankfuls of fuel really opened this thing up and helped clean up the internals
RM
That is some good oil!!
I wasn't trying to make anyone mad it was a honest question because I am shopping for a new motor and an E-TEC was one I was looking at. I was just curious. Thanks

Granted I like my little Eagle motor, but I don't think an Etec can take a Pro XS. Not yet anyway.
