    Ran the 24P TXP today

First time on water this year. Hit a small local lake that just iced out yesterday. Installed the TXP this morning which I purchased late last fall, no time to test. The original owner had the prop B&B and couldn't remember anything else. Looks like to me the blades might have been thinned.

It was really tough to test as the winds just howling in every directions but this is what I came up with. Water temp 41.2 main body, tried 2.25, 2.75 and 3" below the pad. Best was 66.6 at 6K at 2.75 with alittle chine, maybe 10g of gas and a light load. About the same performance with my 25M at 5800. I don't remember last year when I tested the 25M light load that it was this quick out of the hole and didn't seem to carry the boat as well. Can't really comment anymore until I put my normal load in and test again this weekend. So far I like everything better the TXP brings though might need to add some pitch.

Re: Ran the 24P TXP today (Phippy)

I will be interested to see how it does. I have the ZX250 and I have the stock 27T1 and I have a 26 TXP... Blew the hub testing the TXP, got a new one and haven't put it back on but it seemed to run pretty well for the short time I had it on. Couldn't tell too much of a difference, but didn't get to test it much. Keep us posted.

Re: Ran the 24P TXP today (DavidnTex)

To be honest I was alittle disappointed. I was expecting atleast 67.5 or so. The previous owner was running a 18ft Stratos/150 Yammie carb combo as he was not happy with the hole shot so he sent it out to be B&B and who knows what else. Loaded up the boat some more tonight so I will post back Monday night with results.

I think you need to go up. My best set-up was 1 7/8" to 2 1/8" below the pad turning 6100 rpm's light in cool weather. But when the weather warms and with a load it will be perfect 5800-5900 RPM's and 66 mph. The fastest prop (and I ran a TXP, TRO-4, M, Bravo, etc.) was a 25P Tempest A40. This is the old Merc 3-blade which was thinner and faster than the newer Tempests. Get your hands on one and have Mark pitch it to a 26 and I think you will see 68+ light.

Re: Ran the 24P TXP today (SkeeterBill1)

SkeeterBill1 thanks for chiming in. Well at 2 1/4 I experienced alot of slip with only 3/4 trimmed, RPM's soared but not MPH. Will try 2" below with a better load this weekend. I have a feeling this prop had more work done than just B&B.

I'm such a idiot. Just noticed the prop has PVS holes, that would explain the better hole shot. Would using plugs help with the overall speed?

Try it again but be real careful not to overtrim. If your RPM's soared and you lost speed try using less trim. You would be surprised how easy it is to overtrim a bug, especially running the motor high. Set up right the skeeter will be running pretty flat with the rooster tail only about midway up the cowl. IM me if you are intersted in some old videos I have of the boat when I really had it dialed in. You still need to find you an A40 Tempest

If this is the same TXP you bought from me it was b&b by Mark. Like I told you, if you wan't to know what all was actually done, call Mark and ask. You can see from the picks in this link it does not have the PVS system, only fixed vent holes.

Re: Ran the 24P TXP today (285XL)

Chris, I remember our conversation. That being said I did IM Mark as soon as I received the prop and mentioned that I would need to talk to the original owner to see what work was done to the prop.

No worries here, the prop is a step above the 25M. Just need more seat time as I have a strong feeling this prop will take me over 67+ easily.

Re: Ran the 24P TXP today (Phippy)

i purchased a TXP prop for my 07ZX200, and i was disapointed had to jack plate up a good bit higher just to see only 1mph improvement over my stock t-1 25 pitch v-max prop, my boat gps at 68-68.5 NO LOAD, and hardly no gas , full tourney load with 25+gal gas an partner,66.5-67gps is best it gets, i like the t-1 better it never has prop slip and doesnt even need to be near as high as the txp does on the jack plate, and found out when ive got the TXP prop set to where it performs its best speed , if i fill the live wells up, which is equevelant to 200+ lbs then it has prop slip again.. , go figure, im gonna put my t-1 back on, it has bigger diameter (15 1/8) which i like for best hole shot, and after talkin with mark he says i can get more speed with the t-1 , after bein worked

Re: Ran the 24P TXP today (SKEETERBUG1)

SkeeterBug1, the colors are Fusion Blue, Hologram and galaxy black. That pic was taken with a cheap camera so I need a better pic to show how better the colors actually are. The Fusion Blue is actually a deeper blue compared to the pic. Thanks for the kind words.

So far the TXP has better hole shot and acceleration over my stock 25M. Would like to try a TR04 24P as well down the road. Need more seat time.

Re: Ran the 24P TXP today (Phippy)

If ya can get a hold of the yamma prop T-1 25 pitch 15 1/8 diameter youll defantly see a improvement no doubt in my mind , its not the same as the 25m, the T-1 has the large diameter 15 1/8, im not sure what the 25m diameter is, hence thats why the t-1 has such a good hole shot , cause of the diameter, with tourney loads and full 50 gal of gas, but my marina dealer says he likes the tempest prop just a little better , said it will give a mph or so better on top, ...which i could of got when i purchased the boat, they give you the option of the yammie props or the tempest...later

Re: Ran the 24P TXP today (SKEETERBUG1)

Just got back for the lake only this time a smaller one than last week. Getting top end wasn't a option on this lake but was able to test hole shot and handling. Filled up the boat with my normal load 10 rods and 20gl. of fuel. Air temp was 58 about 10+ warmer than last week when I first ran the TXP. Hole shot is indeed a nice improvement over my 25M along with acceleration(atleast in the midrange) and handling. Prop was 2" below pad and still had water pressure above 20psi even at 3/4 trim. Need to get on a bigger body of water for max top end but I feel confident it will do 67mph with normal load/by myself.

Oh and I did have enough time for alittle bit of fishing. Water temp 41 and ended up with 2 LGmouth, this surprised me as this lake has alot more smallies in it. Winds around 20-25mph and at times gust where much more. Total of 3hrs on the lake.
