Rule Livewell pump

I am having problems with one of my livewell pumps and can see the wires from it but I'm not sure which one is the positive. The appears to be a brown wire and a black. Is the brown wire the hot wire and the black the ground??? Just want to make sure since I can not trace the wire back to the switch. I think I have a connector that has come apart. This is on a 96 ZXD180...
