    Fuel tank size

I have a "36" gal. tank in the boat. It has a tag with the information on it. But when i do the calculation of the size it come out to 42 Gallons. I would have to say that the math does not lie. So do i really have a 42 Gallon tank? The reason for this is i got the Lowrance fuel flow sensor and i'm inputing the information to calibrate it so i'm trying to figure out how much fuel is in the tank now. I have about 15 Gals but when i was double checking the math, i came across this problem. Anyone know what's going on????????????

Yeah, still pimping...... Since i'll have it for a long time, i'll fix it up the way i would like it. At this point, i assume that you have the large rectangle tank as me. The dims on mine are 59" L x 13" W x 12.5" Deep.

never trust a fuel gage, there notoriously off!!!, that lowance unit sounds cool. My tankk has a notch molded into the front side, if yours does too, and you cant see it well, that could be your difference

Not counting wall thickness that would be 5.54 cubic feet which is 41.5 gallons. If you account for 1/2" wall thickness then it os 4.63 CF or 34.63 gallons.... so the 36 gallons is probably close.....

Yea, mine are the exact same dimensions. I know mine says the same thing as far as gallons.....

I remember filling up once when the tank was pretty much empty......I put 38 gallons in it....

I just figured they "undersized" the rating to allow for expansion.....I know my vehicles always hold more fuel than what is listed....

I never really put much thought into it....

And no i, was never stuck on a river w/o gas and someone pumping the bulb like someone on here.

David, i did not take the wall thickness factor. I got someone at the office to double check my math and came out with what i got. If figured it would be + or - a gallon.

Thanks all, i'll have to reset the fuel amount.

Re: Fuel tank size (fishin couillon)

I was just kidding about the gauge... mine goes all over the place.

With my 24 gallon tank, it's about 12" tall, so I marked it off every 2" or so with a paint pen and figured those to be about 2 gallons each. I normally fill back up if it gets below 1/2 tank. I judge how much I used by wherever the gas lines up after the trip. Say I start out on 2 and it drops down to 6, I've used 4 gallons....

    Redneck physics...
