Upgrading electronics on '07 SX180

I have an '07 SX180 with an in dash Lowrance X50DX. I DESPERATELY want to upgrade to a 520. What is the best way to get a factory look install? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

you could call Skeeter and see if they have a new dash. youll probably have to mount it next to the dash on a RAM though

The new dash is sure what I was hoping for but I'll do what I have to when the time comes.

I would doubt they have a new dash. But then i think this year is when the SX gets a makeover. Don't quote me on that. Even if there is a new dash, would it fit in the existing hole? The way they change things i would have to guess not. Anyway, like said you would have to put on ram mount or bolt the bracket directly to the console on the side. "Mister E" (Andy) had a few pics of his SX180 where he had a new one put on the console. Might find it. That the only option to do for now. I put my 27c on a ram rather than bracket on the console that way i can adjust it as needed.

What is the difference in the RAM mount and the console? Got any pics? I couldn't find the post you referred to.

Here is the other mounting way i was talking about. http://www.bbcboards.net...60302The other way was to mount the gimble bracket directly to the console which means you can't adjust it how you like it.

Looks like the ram moun tis the way to go. Now to just convince the wife that the 520 is a need, not a want!

y the way, anyone have any strong opinions for another unit or against the 520. Not REALLY into the electronics. That's just what most of the guys around here have. I'm going to post this question in the electronics section too.

What you need to do is get your wife into fishing and hunting. My wife is an avid sportswomen. Convincing her of these type of purchases doesn't require much effort on my part.

I got my ram mount from Three Rivers Marine (board sponsor ). It was the large one that holds the 27C. I want to say the on i got was around $50, not sure. Now there is one smaller. Best thing to do is call 3RM and ask for Justin. He can tell you which one is best for the 520. Also great to deal with on buying Low. units.

My wife loves to hunt and fish. That isn't the issue at all. She just can't understand the difference in the X50 and the better units that are avaiable. But she'll come around. We're going to Jamaica next wek. I'll get her to promise me one after a few pina coloda's. . . . . . . lol lol lol

I pulled the X50DS from my console and put a X67C in its place.I know the 520 is a super unit, but if you want a great upgrade without mounting another bracket, go with the X67C. It is a big difference and has excellent color graphics. It is not the 520, but it is not $600 either. The Eagle Fisheasy 320C is the similar unit but without the flasher function. X67C is $199 w/o trans and the Eagle is the same price with the trans. They are both compatible with the transducers you already have. No need to change them. Big Al

Thanks for the tip big al. Not realy worried about mounting another piece. I really think the 520 (or upgrading at all) will help the resale if I ever decide to go up a size or two.
