Trouble with the '93 Faststrike 175

    Model - VJ175GLETR SN#G03168331

Old reliable decided to act up this weekend. Fished Fri pm, Sat AM, Sat pm and Sun am. Everytime I started it I had a VERY hard time. I have always held the key in for 4 seconds and fired it up first thing in the am, then just bump the key the rest of the day and it would fire everytime but not this time. Once I had run it it would fire up, even if it had been a couple of hours but it just didn't want to run right. I even put in a new set of plugs mid day Saturday thinking I had fouled one since it had been last summer since I changed them, I also decarbed then, but all the plugs I took out looked good . The new plugs didn't help much. I could only start it by pumping on the key, it wouldn't start just holding it in. The only thing I have changed is the oil. This motor has only run xd25 since new but I had to run some Penzoil XLF in it. I noticed that inside the cylinders when I changed the plugs that there were some drops of oil like it didn't mix or something. Not an excessive amount but I haven't noticed that before. Everything ran ok once running but the starting and low speed was a problem. I took it easy on it this weekend and am going to pump out the HLF and get some XD back in it. I am also using the same fuel from the same station and it is also in my truck so I don't think it's bad gas. I don't put any additives in with the gas. This motor has always run like a top until I changed the oil. Any ideas on what to look for ??

Champion QL78YC. I have been reading up on ethnol in gas and related problems and I'm beginning to think I might have accumulated some water in the fuel. It's a bear to start.

Check your fuel filter and if you have a water separator replace it. Gap the champs at .030. Is the XLF just a run of the mill tcw 3 oil? If I was going to use Penzoil I'd use the full synthetic.

I got the XLF because Wally World dosn't carry the xd25 anymore. I bought some Pennzoil 100% synthetic last night and I am going to pump out the XLF and put the synthetic in. I don't have a fuel/water seperator but I am going to BPS and get one this week and add it too. I thought they would be more expensive but are actually relatively cheap.
