I haven't seen any Skeeter boats or pictures with the stainless fenders. Do they really dress up the trailer? How much extra is that as an option, ball park, on a tandem axle trailer?

My boat is being built now. It is a ZX225 with the new F225, and I have the stainless fenders on it. I can send pics as soon as it gets here.
Here's a couple of picts of my 05 model.

Thanks. I think it was about a $400 add on. I use SS BBQ pit cleaner to clean them when they get really dirty, otherwise BassBoat Saver works real well for everyday shine.

I guess the fenders look O.K. but i really like the boat ( nice colors) and I have never caught a fish on a fender.
I ordered them on my new Skeeter. I have always liked the way they look. They would make a trailer with a pile of chit on it look good IMO. I was quoted $550 for them by one dealer. Apparently they arent listed in the book that the dealers use when they figure a price. Both dealers I spoke with had to call for a price. They are listed in the 2008 catalog though.

That's the first pic I've seen of those. That is NICE!! You definitely need to hook that up. Looks especially good with those wheels. Never have really, really liked the fiberglass. Seems like they would be too easy to break if you had a blowout or something hit it.
Nice boat too!!![]()

I'm like jason, the fiberglass don't do much for me. On some trailers it looks like they were added on cause nothing else would work. Steel fenders either painted or chrome looks good. Alot cheaper to replace also.

Steven, you're right , I've decided that I'll spend the extra $$'s on electronics.I can't remember the last time that I fished at a ramp just to look at my truck & trailer in the parking lot.
And since I don't shave I don't need the mirror finish. Everybody have fun out there!

Just remember, boats are typically sold while sitting on a trailer. The total package looks better (sells better) when the trailer looks better. Personally, I prefer fiberglass, or in Skeeter's case, polymer (supposedly even better); but, SS will not rust or show road gravel paint chips over time like painted fenders.
Keep the boat long enough - you WILL have fender issues (with painted fenders). SS/composite can be looked at as an investment in the longevity (and thus, resale) of your trailer as well.
John, the one thing I will disagree with you, is the over long term you will have problems with steel fenders. I have a 1990 Stratos (original owner) that will be for sale in the the near future and have NEVER had any problems with the steel fenders, I have used them every time I get in/out while it's trailered.

You're doing better than me, I had an '03 Stratos (201, so their top of the line) that showed rust and chips within a couple of months. I went ahead and got SS replacements. My partner got a Stratos the same time but got the SS from the start, his held up much better. It was way cheaper doing it his way and getting them from the start. I've only had one other boat with steel fenders (all others have been fiberglass) and it ended up in rust as well, I'd say that one took about 5 years. Keep in mind, I do fish a lot, but my boats are stored indoors. Maybe, it might even have something to do with the type of water around here.
Also, in all fairness, fiberglass fades if neglected and left outdoors - but even a heavily oxidized fender can be brought back with fiberglass restorer and some elbow grease. I have not had my Skeeter long enogh to know how long the polymer fenders last but like them so far.
Man, those SS fenders are a knockout! Maybe Santa will be very good to me in 08 or 09.

i wanted to swap mine out for SS on my 06 zx225 but my current fenders are welded on. Is it more trouble than its worth to change them? Is it even possible??
absolutely possible, just cut the others off drill holes and the stainless steel ones bolt on. My 08 zx200 comes in today and my trailer has them on it. This makes the 2nd one ive had with stainless steel fenders and i wouldn't have it any other way.

i agree they do look sharp but my fear is that once i cut them i will have exposed metel that will soon rust.

And how is that different than if they were painted, poweder coated, chrome plated, or covered with LineX bedliner material? Any time the surface is cut and metal is exposed, you have the possibility of rust. That's not an indication of the quality (or lack or) of the surface covering.
Those look good. When I bought my Skeeter, it seperated itself from the other Skeeters I was looking at because he had nice rims on it. It looked a hell of alot better on the trailer than the rest I looked at. It definately helped the guy that sold it to me, and when I'm ready to sale in a few years it will help me.
