    Leaving Skeeter for another brand

Well I finally am taking the plunge. I am leaving Skeeter for another brand. I love the ride, fishability and look of the skeeters but that is not enough for me. I am very dissapointed in the detail work of skeeter. Every latch on my skeeter has broken, the seats are coming apart at the seams, the trailer has issues, the gelcoat cracked, the windshield screws keep backing out, etc etc etc.The over all quality seems to be a step below what I expect in a boat that expensive. Skeeter makes a good boat but it is my opinion that they need better quality control in the fit/finish small detail areas......... So long Skeeter

Gotta step upto the ZX - Iclass lines

Every company has levels to their product lines, the TZX wasn't at the top so you will see some quality issues here and there...

No boat is perfect, but they do pay closer attention to the details on their top of the line models...

I have a 1992 with none of those issues. They don't make them like they used to.

I considered an I class but they are way overpriced. I went with a champion 210 dc instead. Skeeter can not come close to what I got for the price I paid

Funny because I have several of the problems listed on my 04 ZX.

I think my previous 1993 Z150 was built better than my current 2004 ZX225. Not that I would trade back to the Z150 as I love the layout of the ZX225 and lot of features, it just seems the quality is a bit lacking. Especially in the gelcoat in my case.

BTW "skeeterzx225", did you ever get the spooler pics you wanted?

Re: Leaving Skeeter for another brand (skeeterfisher)

I've got an 04 TZx 190 that I've owned for 4 1/2 years now and I don't have any of the issues that You have experienced. 1. I don't allow people to walk on the seats as they get to and from the back deck. 2. When I get something out of a compartment I close the lid and fold the latch in its little recess. 3. All boats vibrate and a little TLC will keep everything tight. I have only one small stress crack after four years of jumping waves and fishing tourneys. That's not bad. I've got a feeling you are not going to be satisfied with anything else you are going to get either.

Re: Leaving Skeeter for another brand (skeeterbit)

Skeeterbit this is a common problem with these boats . I have the seat tears also and the tears are on the seat backs not were someone would walk . So please lose the high and mighty attitude it's everyone else's fault till it happens to your boat .

I'll have to say, I am surprised to hear about all those issues. I have an 03 TZX 190 and so far (knock wood) I haven't seen any of them.

Thats a big jump. i kinda thought champions were over priced as well . it will be a whole different ship going from a 18.5ft boat to a 21 footer.

Fully loaded new never been on the water DC 210 elite with 250 HPDI $39, 600 out the door. Overpriced? Not in my opinion. What Skeeter product can touch that?

I dont agree with this statement. Just because I cant afford an I Class is no reasen to expect that my SX not have a perfect fit and finish. Everything on it should be perfect from a quality view. If not then fix it and Id be happy. I may not have as good of a ride or all the fancy gizmos, but I expect perfection from any new purchase.

That being said I believe Skeeter put together an excellent boat in my SX. Ive never had any issues with it. I would buy another Skeeter in a heartbeat just because of the one I have now. I looked at a 2007 ZX225 this year and the finish was horrible. Carpet was coming up around the trolling motor petal. There imperfections in the gelcoat. A ton of fiberglass shavings around inside the boat. The boat may perform perfect, but when you purchase new you should always expect it to be perfect. As far as I was concerned that boat was a second and should have been priced acordingly.

Re: Leaving Skeeter for another brand (buckeye-basser)

I agree 100% Buckeye, when I bought the Skeeter I thought I was buying the best. I figured for 25 grand I should have had a well made boat, Little did I know I had to get a zx to have "quality"....silly me. Granted I still think Skeeter makes a hell of a boat It just needs a little more attention in the "little things area".

they all have issues from time to time. A buddy bought a champion this year brand new and that boat is haunted. All the electrical went out then the livewell pump went out. His drain plug actually broke off and then problems with the motor. I have a 2000 ZX195 and it has been great plus at east Skeeter never went out of business like Champion did. Good luck
