    Skeeter or Triton

Would someone help a new member and compare the two bass boats I have narrowed my choice to? 02 Triton Tr185 with 03 150 merc. xr6. 03 Skeeter sx190 yamaha 150 V Max. Both equiped about the same. Triton is about 8 out of 10. Skeeter definitely 10-10. Skeeter about $2K more. Your comments appreicated.

    Re: Skeeter or Triton (adnewman)

I might be partial, but Skeeter all the way as I am on my 3rd. In my minimal experience, I have noticed that the Triton's that I have ridden in all seem to like to chine walk and didn't seem as smooth as my Skeeter, just my 2 cents.

    Re: Skeeter or Triton (fastlife)

I've read a lot about the chime walk and the triton. Seems it usually occurs at about 60gps. That is my biggest concern. Thanks for the reply.

like anything else, it just takes seat time to learn to control it....the chinewalk that is
Both are very good boats and resale value is awesome on either one.
    Will the Triton do 60?

    Re: Skeeter or Triton (BjBnet!)

I am sure both will do close to 60 depending on the weight on board. That is not a big deal to me. I am on a very large lake in Mo, lake of the Ozarks, so I seldom put it to the floor. I guess it will come down to the best deal. Sounds like from everything I have read that both are good boats. The Triton does have a trasferable 10 warrenty on the hull. The Skeeter hull warranty is void since I willbe the third owner. That might be the deal breaker.

I would get in them and take a demo ride to see which one you are more comfortable with. I'm a little partial to Skeeter but the performance features and ease of driving a Skeeter are very important to me. The ability to make stable high speed turns, and stable mid range turning ability both safely are very important to me. Skeeter boats are NMMA certified - Which means they are built and tested to meet a higher standard than Coast Guard Rating - It also means each model passed Performance, Safety Tests at Max Speed plus construction guidelines set by the NMMA. You never know when your going to need to make a sudden turn - log floating in the water, LofO Jet Ski running in front of you, or anything else you encounter.

    Re: Skeeter or Triton (adnewman)

My old tourny partner has a Triton TR-19 and two of my friends have Triton TR-186. My boat has a better ride than any of them. My boat is also much easier to drive and gets no wash over the back deck. Both are stable fishing platforms, but the Tritons have the pedistal so close to the front of the boat that it is uncomfortable for me to fish unless the seat is removed. Some guys like that though. At 60 mph my boat will not chine walk. All three of my friends Tritons do allthough 2 of them know how to drive threw it.

I don't think I've ever heard of any problems with hulls after a few years of being run. If there were any problems the original owner woud have addressed it....but I know where your are coming from.

I did my research same as you a few years ago and compared Ranger Skeeter and Triton (like everyone else does) and have since owned 2 Skeeters
My first was a 1989 SD80 and my present boat is a 1992 and I wouldn't look back. I've tried Tritons and yes they are tricky/scary to drive at first....

Here are some Skeeter videos just to tease you

    Re: Skeeter or Triton (adnewman)

Guess I'm a bit late but I have a 2000 TR186 and have found it to be a very stable fishing platform and relatively dry ride for an 18.5 ft boat. With my bias exposed, I think Triton is a better big water boat because of the hull design. I agree with a previous poster, drive them both before you buy, otherwise you will never know.

Either way, you are getting a good bass boat. Skeeters and Tritons are both solid rides and you'll be fishing soon.

As for the guy who said his 17 skeeter rode better than his buddies 19 ft Triton, I must say that your buddy must be one bad driver b/c there is no way the ride on any 17 foot boat is going to be better than the ride of a 19+ foot Triton. Sorry.

Just look at the boats, the SKEETER keeps it shine longer than the other boats. They have a superior gel-coat hands-down. It will be faster and fishes great.

    Re: Skeeter or Triton (adnewman)

If you want an aircraft carrier deck for a fishing platform pick the SKEETER. If you want a boat that is notrious for chine walking pick the Triton. Sorry I am biased.
