    Wet storage compartment!

When washing my skeeter or from rain, my boat will hold water in the spots shown in the picture below, rendering the below seat storage useless. The under seat storage don't even drain, just stays full of water.

Any one else have this problem. anyone got a fix. Drill a couple holes???

    Re: Wet storage compartment! (10shotgroup)

My zx185c does the same thing under the driver's seat and like you said, it just will not dry out. I have to put a fan blowing into it to get it dry. Under the passenger side seat is an under seat ice chest. When we don't use it as an ice chest, it stays dry.

But the driver's side seat storage is rendered useless because of the water.

So, you think drilling a hole is the answer? I have a hard time drilling holes when I'm not sure what is behind it.

Re: Wet storage compartment! (EASTTX SKEETER)

My zx185 does the same thing as well. Really, all I haev in there is my camera or a shirt or something just for the day I am on the water. I don't put a thing in there otherwise because of the water issue.

In all reallity I believe is was originally designed to hold a spare prop. Although, I hate to have stale stinky carpet in there.

    Re: Wet storage compartment! (10shotgroup)

I dont know that there is a good answer to this problem, all 3 Skeeters I have owned this has been a problem on. I've just gotten into the habit of when I park it in the garage after fishing in the rain I prop open the underseat storage to let it air out. Also, I dont store anything in them that doesnt need to get wet. Basically all thats in mine is a spare prop for the O/B and TM and the other side I keep my weigh in bag and marker bouys.

I keep raingear under the passenger side and extra worms and line under the driver's side, all in ziplok bags.... open the seat cushions after you get home.

I'm like others, if it can't get wet don't put it there. I have bouys, bag, drift sock, ropes, etc., things that don't matter. And when i get caught in the rain, i take the shop vac and suck out the water in the carpet and prop the seat open to let it dry. I find that if i don't vac the water out, it doesn't dry.

    Re: Wet storage compartment! (10shotgroup)

I had the exact same problem with my 97 zx190. both my rear compartments leaked as well. I solved the problem by going to lowes and buying some 1"x1" pine wood (a couple of 6' lengths) and I made mini pallets for every compartment. Now everything sits up off the bottom and when it gets wet, no big deal beacuse it eventually drains or dries out. No more wet gear

    Re: Wet storage compartment! (macinckirk)

Kirk, I thought I had found a solution to your problem, I was going to tell you to just pull the drain out of the kitchen sink but after reviewing your pictures you seem to have everything under the seats except for the kitchen sink! So I guess that wont help I dont feel so bad about all the crap I carry in my boat... and oh yeah, I too have always got a healthy supply of crackers and beef Jerky cant fish without them!

Re: Wet storage compartment! (Skeeter Jay)

LMAO Jay I'm just got back from the Detla so I'm missing 6-8 beef sticks and 3 more bags of Jerky I guess someone should start a tread about HOW MUCH Stuff do you Really Carry

I would Guess that if I took Half the stuff out of the boat I have I could hit that 68-69 GPS now that I think about it I bet there is 35 lbs of stuff just under that 1 seat

also I think the Kitchen sink is under the pass seat

What do you expect with a deck and lids made from recycled aluminum beer cans - Just kidding. Check your seal and make sure it has contact with the lid and also the lock

    Re: Wet storage compartment! (dirtmonkey)

I have an old Nitro (almost same as Starfire) with the same problem. There are factory holes w/plastic inserts on each side where the arrows are but they clog easy and water floods the storage. I got a long piece of car door seal from Autozone and replaced the black edge moulding with it and NO MORE WATER IN STORAGE

Take a wet/dry vac, vaccum the water out and prop the seats open. It will only take a day to dry after that. It's a pain if you have to do it all the time.
