    newbie discovery

Took the boat out to Pickwick yesterday. After the morning of fishing was complete, headed in to load up. I discovered my pro trim wasn't working. Checked all I knew to ceck (which isn't much). Complained to wife about having to take the boat all the way back to dealer and it probably wouldn't take him 10 minutes to fix. Anyway, after a few minutes, realized that I'd already turned the power accessory button off and though, well, let's see! Hit the switch and the trim works like always. Boy, I'd have felt like an idiot if I'd taken it all the way to the dealer (about an hour away). Anyway, just thought I'd share for no reason at all.

dont feel bad, I've done the exact same thing, but it only took me about a minute to realize what I had done. Dont worry, there will be several more things just like that you will do over the next few months of ownership

That would have been pretty bad.

That reminds me of the story my dad would tell about his days doing TV repair. A guy called him bacause his TV would not work so dad went to his house and plugged it in for him.

    Re: newbie discovery (Rodney Bledsoe)

Thats not as bad as me and my first boat. Boat dies and I get towed in. Get boat home and no spark. After buying every new part imaginable to fix the problem it still wont start and I'm pretty mad. I turn around and my son is swinging the kill switch cord around. He addmitted to pulling it off while we were fishing and he had it in his coat pocket.(He was only about 4 at the time) Needless to say I hooked the kill switch back up and she fired up on the first try. A costly leason learned. Each of my other two younger sons did something similar but I always remember and check that kill switch now.

Buddy of mine has a Ranger with a Ficht that he has had all kinds of motor problems with. He was running one evening trying to get to the ramp before the Wed night tourny was due in. It stopped running, he trolled to the ramp and hauled it 1.5 hrs to the dealer and dropped it off. Later that day they call him " we dont know how to tell you this but... your gas tank was empty "

    Re: newbie discovery (Neilslure)

I remember one time I was fishing and decided to move to another part of the lake when the motor wouldn't start. Cranked it for about 20 minutes until the battery died down. Fortunately, I was close to a sailboat club and the members there let me tie up to their dock and one of them drove me to the ramp to get my truck. Got home about an hour later and put up a post and called my buddy hoping for an answer. You guessed it, the KILL SWITCH! Somehow the lanyard came off the switch and I never looked to see if it was connected. Put it back on and the motor cranked right over. I was surprised to hear that many guys have done this once, never to be done again.

colreb, I have met larry pugh a few times. He helped me put on a small fishing tournament for some kids that we did a fishing camp for! Kids had a blast. Most had never ridden in a boat so they thought it was awesome! If you see him, tell him again how much his assistance was appreciated.

I went out early one morn and the Min Kota would not run, Ran the last time I was out, Didn't know about the switch on the side and I was on the second season with this boat. Now I use the switch all the time for slow troll.
