    Fuel Consumption

    Hello everyone!
This is my very first post. I currently own a 2002 ZX 225 with an OX 66. I am in love with the boat. But, with todays gas prices, I am really feeling it. In my tournaments on the river I have to make long runs. My last tournament, between pre-fishing for 1 day and the tournament I spent about $150.00 in gas. I was wondering how much better and HPDI would be. I looked at trading my motor on an 07 225 hpdi but the difference was going to $8,000. I would probably just pick up another boat for that difference. Any thoughts? Would the better gas mileage warrant another newer boat?
    Thanks,
    Chad

Yanaha HPDI is a great motor but if you want better gas consumption, it rates around the bottom of the list compared to Merc or Evinrude.

My first question would be what RPM range do you mainly run your boat when on plane ?

At WOT, you will not see much difference.... at 3500 to 4000 RPM's you will see a difference.

and response to the previous post, do not believe everything you read ........ I have had both the opti and hpdi and the main diff I can see is oil consumption, not fuel differences.

    Re: Fuel Consumption (JeffinFortWorth)

While pre-fishing it would be in the 3500 to 4000. For the tournament take off would be 5800. The rest of the tournament back down to 3500 to 4000 unless i'm in a hurry to the weigh in.

    Re: Fuel Consumption (jorgy273)

Fuel consumption between all of the manufacturers is very close with todays modern EFI engines. The OX66 will consume quite a bit more than the HPDI. The OX66 is a very strong running engine.

As previously stated, keeping the rpms around 3500 to 4500 is your best economy with both the OX66 and HPDI.

    Re: Fuel Consumption (PSM207)

with my 2004 225 HPDI i average 3.8 to 4.5 mpg. running 5000 rpm is about 62 mph on my boat and according to the lowrance fuel moniter i burn a tad over 15 gals per hour.
