I was just looking at the standard features on my boat and they had bilge pumps listed as follows:
* Manual 800 gph bilge pump
* Auto or Manual 1500gph bilge pump
Why are their 2 and how do they work.
thanks,

In the absence of someone that knows specifics about your boat, manual means theres just an on/off switch for the pump.. You want to turn it on, your flip the switch on. When it quits pissing water out of the hole, you shut it off..
If it has an auto feature, it will have a switch with off in the middle, on on one side, and auto on the other side. The "on" side works the same as above. The auto side diverts power to a float switch which turns the pump on and off. If the auto feature is important to you(I added it to mine), all you have to do is replace the SPST switch with a DPDT and run one more wire to a 25 dollar float switch, then connect the other wire of the float switch to the hot wire of the pump.
