    new guy with 20i question

doing homework to buy new boat. ZX200 or used 06 20i. A dealer warned me about buying a used 20i because it might not have had the factory recall to the hull. I guess they pourposed at 25-35mph. He said that is why he still has new 06's in stock. They did not get back to him till aug of 06 and he was getting 07 buy then. Also the small detail about the locks not working properly. I just bought a 2000 ZX180 and ti only took about 2 hours on the water to see it was 2 small. Can't even lay my 7' rods on the deck without hanging over. Wife says get what you want screw the budget. Just joined the NBAA and want to fish local events and see how I stack up. So you see I need lots of help just buying the right boat. Thanks in advance.

I talked to quite a few people running '06 I Class boats before I ordered my '07. Some of them had issues with the alarm sensors but I never heard of any problems with the hulls. These boats handle great and fish very comfortably. Skeeter obviously put a lot of effort into engineering the I Class.

Re: new guy with 20i question (camchaos)

I've got an '06 and love it. Mine will porpoise at slower speeds if I have the jackplate raised pretty high. I learned to adjust the height of the JP to have it run well at slower speeds and get a decent top end (72.5 GPS).

I've never heard of the hull recall. I know they tweaked the hull to eliminate the slow speed porpoise on the '07s. They also provided me with negative trim wedge and they paid for the install.

The lock issue on my boat was resolved by adding the mod kit (2007 lock cylinders).

Re: new guy with 20i question (Skeeter Madness)

All I can tell you is what my dealer told me when I bought my 2006 demo 20i. That is that Skeeter did a factory recal on the locks and hull for the 06 model but it was up to each dealer as to whether or not they sent them back. Mine supposedly did, and I haven't had any lock problems or porpoising.

Boat is awesome. If the dealer you are working with has gotten the fixes and is willing to stand by it, I would go with the 06 as I am sure you can get a great deal.

I have run both the 2006 and 2007 20i. The fix is adding just a little hook on the outer surfaces. I didn't have much issue with porposing but positioning contents helps and driving by feel if you feel the nose is loose tap the gas just a tab. How many times are you going to be driving at the lowest plane speed?

Skeeter did the minor hull changes and upgraded the locks prior to me selling my 2006. Your dealer should be able to at least change the locks it's a pretty minimal fix as my dealer has upgraded an '96 himself.

Either way it was the best riding boat I've been and the reason I got another 29i for 2997 and will get the same for 2008!

i just read about the 08 ZX180 post and can tell you, VMAX 150 OX66 on my 2000 ZX180 is a little harry to drive. big time chine walk @65 mph. I don't think I have the kahonas to drive through it either. VERY fast for 17' 8".

Re: new guy with 20i question (camchaos)

I believe our dealer has a few 2007 in stock boats as well. I think he had a loaded ZX200 in the mid 30's, a ZX 225 for a couple of grand more. I might be able to get pictures and details from him if you want.
