Skeeter ZX Owners !!!!!!!! How do YOU set your livewell controls ???????

I just went from being a Ranger owner for 25 years to a 07 ZX 225. The valve choices for the livewells are Open or Close, no automatic. I had been using the auto feature in the Ranger. The SX series does have the Auto option at the valve. When you catch your first fish, how do you set the p ump switches and valve control the way they need to be to keep your catch alive the rest of the day???? Thanks for the help. Darren

Turn the valve to the closed position, press the port/starboard "fill" button, once the livewells are full, keep pressing the button until the "auto" setting lights up. Make sure the red valves located inside the livewell are pushed in, otherwise the "fill" switch will pump out the livewells.

I normally use the Port livewell when I fish alone. Below are the steps I use to get it ready for service.

1) Close the port drain valve (with the valve control switch labeled "Port" by my feet).

2) Press "Port Fill" button on control panel (I usually select "on" option, instead of "Auto") I just watch it fill up, and stop it at the level I want (about 3/4 full).

3) Press the "port rec. button" I normally set it on "auto". I have ran it in the "on" position a time or two, when I had some very large fish, or it was very hot. You can also adjust the length of time the rec. pump runs per cycle, when it's set on "auto" with the timer selector.

When you open the lid on your livewell, you will see the recirc nozzle towards the top of the livewell (It has a 90 degree fitting on it). This is a dual position fitting, and works in conjunction with your recirculating pumps to perform (2) functions.

1) If that nozzle is pushed (In), the rec. pump suction will pull water out of the livewell, and discharge it out of that nozzle & back into the livewell.

2) If that nozzle is pulled (Out), The rec. pump suction will pull water out of the livewell, and discharge it out the rear of the boat (Pump-Out feature).

The above mentioned set-up is on the pre-'07 (I know for sure 2003 thru 2006 model year ZX & TZX) boats, and the old hull design '07 boats.
I do not know if anything has been changed on the new style '07 boats.

Hope this helps.

I never use recirc. I close the drain, fill it full and set it to auto fill. Excessive water will flow out the overflow drain. Fresh oxygenated water is better than recirculate oxy water.

True unless the water temps are 85 degrees.

I guess that is a good way too? I would hate to see all that expensive rejuvinaid <<(sure that is mis-spelled) going out the over-flow though. I guess you would have to just turn the fill pump off, and aerator pump on while you are running the big motor too, to keep from dry-running the fill pump... I have never lost a fish so-far the way I set mine up (except one, or two that had been gill-hooked). That's just how I do it anyway.

Even at that temp, since I don't carry ice as I think that'll shock the fish after weigh-in and releasing back to warmer waters. I do have aqua-innovation in both live wells so that helps. I try to remember to turn off the auto fill during short runs to a different area and sometimes I forget but nothing has gone wrong with my pumps yet. I've had 2 fish died all year, but like you they were gill hooks(bleeders). I guess you just try what works best.

Rejuvinade??? What's that. If it some kind of treatment, then I don't use it.

Yeah, it's one of those live-well additives. It's supposed to help protect the slime coat, and actually supposed to help a bleeder fish's wound to clot & help give them a better chance at survival. I'm not completely convinced that it works, I just hate to not give them every change at surviving. I usually don't use it until the hot summer months, or if I do happen to gill-hook one. I have had several bleeder fish released looking 100% OK. Don't really know if the additive had anything to do with it though???
