MicroSd recommendations for Garmin Chirp 93sv

Upgrading the the 2 old Garmin 240's this year on the Triton. While I patiently wait for the release of the Garmin Chirp 93sv I would like to purchase some of the extras while I wait.
Any recommendations on MicroSD card that work well with the Garmins?

    Thanks,

    Greg

Are you talking about the micro sd's for the upgraded maps, or just a plain one for transferring waypoints?

The cards need to be pretty good size if you plan to use HomePort and/or save and view sonar recordings and/or do track and waypoint management/planning on your home computer.

Thats because the sonar recordings can get to be very large files very fast - something like 250 megs for every 15 minutes of recording. Its like recording HD video files.

You will also want to copy the built-in maps to an SD card so you can see them when your using Homeport. Each map file is well over 2 gigs.

Transferring big files works best if you use a fast SD card, so Id recommend you dont cheap out. Ive always used SanDisk, but there are other good ones out there. You can Google for recent comparison tests of speed and reliability. Im currently using an older, slower 16 gig card which works ok in my 7610 but transfer rates are slooooow. I plan to go to at least a 32 gig ultra card soon.

You will need to download your builtin map to what ever SD card you want to use with Homeport or you wont be able to see the maps. That file has to stay on the card unless you want to fool around with virtual hard disks. Thats going to be around 3 gigs. I dont have any idea how big the QuickDraw files will be though.

My 7612s don't use micro sd, but I'm using 64gig class 10 transcend cards. I stopped doing sonar recordings though cause there is no easy way to share them. I simply use the helm app now.

I don't know the max card size for the 93sv though

Don't know much about which cards but you can record up to 1500 hours of QuickDraw on a 32 gig card.

For I while I only used Sandisk as it was a name brand and highly recommended. Very disappointed with the failure rate. So then I decided to go cheap. Last ones I got were on Amazon and labelled "Patriot". Had no problems whatsoever. Good luck.

The max SD card size for the echoMAP CHIRP units is 64GB formatted as FAT32.

I cant remember the details now, but there was an issue in one of my other hobbies a year or two ago with some reports of fake/clone SanDisk and Kingston (I think) chips with poor performance and hi failure/dud rates. Maybe you got some of those.

gopro users went through the same thing with sandisk ultra cards. there is no standard or certification for them to be able to label a card as class 10. for our units it's not as much of a requirement as shooting 4k video or using a dslr. ive had no issues with the transcend though.

here is the format thread. a 64 gig card will not come formatted as FAT32

I used the free program guifformat to format my card to a 64GB FAT32 partition. Worked like a charm for the formatting, however I will have to wait until this evening to try it in my Garmin.

Garmin specifies FAT32 as a requirement for formatting and lists 64GB as the max for the 76XX series, so I'd imagine the exFAT formatting of the card was the issue.
