    Minn Kota 101

I can get a good deal on a Minn Kota 101 with a long shaft right now. THe only thing that is holding me back is the shaft length. Any opinions.

i believe all you want is the 42 inch shaft. Your might could get by with the 52 but the head will stick up pretty high.

With the ZX225 the shallow water fishermen prefer the 42" shaft. Off shore structure fishermen are putting on 52" shaft motors when the possibilities of high winds kick up and fishing in the waves. Depends on your style of fishing.

I am definatly an off shore guy. I didn't realize Minn Kota offered a foot controlled motor with a 62" inch shaft until I looked at their site this morning. I am considering a 52 - the 62 would be a little much.

Re: Minn Kota 101 (MD ZX225)

I got a 52" on my Zx250 and found that in the standard stowed position it would not sit deep enough when you deployed on the great lakes, I had to loosen the collar and lower the motor.

The motor came with a standard Maxxum mount and I had a buddy that got an extra Maxxum Pro mount with lift assist so I bought it from him.

Now the motor is fully extended in the stowed position and when I deploy it on the great lakes it doesn’t pop out or cavitate any more. And the only time I need to raise the motor is in really shallow water.

So the moral of this story is that the mount length plays as much a role in this as the shaft length.

I would definitely go with the 52” shaft and get the Maxxum Pro mount with lift assist not just for the mounts length but for the lift assist the “motor weighs a ton”

    Ryan,

Just make sure you get an extra grommet where the rope goes into the bracket. I have seen several of these break as I have supplied the nylon replacement part for them on many occasions to friends of mine.
