What gps speed and RPM's are typical with this rig given the factory setup with a 10" jackplate, running a 25P Powertech? I'm gettin 66mph@5400rpm fully loaded

Thanks Doug, looks like I'm right in line, I guess skeeter sets up enough boats to know what is optimal.
Thanks again
I don't have this particular boat, but those numbers seem low. There are guys with 175 that are getting that. Hopefully someone with the same setup will chime in soon.

Here's the performance bulletin for the 18 footer with a 175.

If you look at it compared to the first PB Doug posted, the most glaring difference is air temps. The 200 running at 85 degree air temps lost some speed. Look at the air temps in the 2nd one he posted, and notice the speed is 3 mph higher. The 2nd one with the 200 is closest to the 175 I'm listing with regard to air temps.
Also, keep in mind these PB's are done with 2 people on board and a pretty full load. That is listed under Test Conditions. Most of the speeds you're familiar with reading from people on the boards are 1) ideal conditions or during their best run, 2) typically with just them in the boat 3) and usually exaggerated just a touch.By the way, running at 68 with a 200 and 2 men on board is nothing to scoff at. That's pretty good for a 200!
I would wait until the cooler months to get some accurate runs. Warm water and air, along with higher humidity will cause a definite loss in performance. I wouldn't be surprised to see a 2 to 4 mph increase with cooler temps. However, a little tweaking of your setup will probably also give some gain. Enjoy the Skeeter!

Guess that's why I got 69 with me and the wife on board.
Sorry, that's real coincidental, but true. 69.1 acually during a short break in run this spring. We're gonna see what it'll do once the temps come down.

jamo1 - Which 25P PowerTech are you running?

I'm not sure, whatever came on the setup. I am only familiar with Mercury props. All I know it that it is a 25P 3 blade with small holes similar to the PVS holes like the tempest and trophy

You need to be running a 25 TXP. RWTZX has the same combo and he runs over 70 easily.
I would think you can considerably better speeds than that when the water does cool down.
on my ZX185c with 175 Yammie, by myself, less than an inch of gas in the spring I am pushing 68 gps. Hot summer, high humidity, warm water, tank full of gas, two people, 63-65 pretty common.
I am running a 25 pitch M-series yamaha prop.
Jamo sounds like you have some room for improvement. I can run 65-66mph (gps) with two aboard in my TZX190 and 175HPDI. My best speed has been 68.5 with just me and a average load. How far below the pad is your propshaft set? That prop you have sounds like a Powertech VMX. You should try a 25TXP or 25M.
I have an 06 zx200 w/ 200 HPDI , and I'm running 68-69 gps in the summer months w/ two aboard and normal load turning 5900-6000 rpms. Hopefully this fall I can reach low 70's. I got a 25t1 and it seems like a real good all around prop for this boat.
after the break in, will the rpm's come up automatically via the ECM or am I going to have to make a plate adjustment? Also, what is the redline, 6000?
Contrary to popular belief the HPDI does not double oil itself during break-in nor does it retard the RPMs. I know some people will argue with me on the double oiling thing but I got this from a very knowledgeable Yammie tech with several years experience dealing with these motors. I could go into the details of the oiling procedure during break-in but it is a mute point. In other words, you are going to see very little if any increase in RPMs after break-in unless you do something to change the set-up. I suspect your motor is too deep can you tell us your measurement below the pad?
BTW your right on the max RPMs being 6000. The rev limiter kicks in about 6150rpm but Yammie recommends a max of 6000.

True! He is getting those numbers (close to 73-74 gps) under ideal conditions. Not with two people, loaded. But that is still flat out flying for a ZX200!!![]()
rwtzx- any input?

I have an 05. With the stock powertech 25" VMX prop I was running about 70 light and 67 fully loaded at 5900 rmps.
I got a 26" TXP and now run 69 fully loaded and I hit 73 (light) just the other weekend in 90 degree outside temps. My RPMs with the 26" TXP are right at 5750.

jamo1,
These are the exact questions that I asked months ago. I was running 64 mph gps @ 5400 rpms. I run with 50 gallons of gas two people (about 460lbs.) and all the equipment to fish a tournament. I thought those numbers were real low myself.
Took my motor back to dealer and they found a fouled plug. They said it was only running on 5 cly's. It ran worse than before.
Took it back again and they said it was a loose exhaust tuner. After 1 month I had the thing back. When they ran it they said it ran anywhere between 68 and 71 gps. This is with 50 gallons of fuel and two people.
I am currently running a Turbo TXP. I started with a PowerTech 25", went to a 25" T1, and now a Turbo.
I am also @ 1 1/8 below pad.
Sounds like to me you could do better.
