2000 200 HP Evinrude Ficht
Model: E200FPXSSC
Serial Number: G04820717
I am a noob here and am hoping that someone here has seen these issues before and can give some guidance. I apologise for not having the model number, I will post it tomorrow after I talk to my mechanic AGAIN.
Has antone ever seen these motors just shutdown with NO advance warning or lights/warning horn coming on??? This has been a recurring problem with this engine. We are running and all of the sudden, it just shuts down with no warning. You then turn the key off and back on , it self tests, and the 3 of the 4 light stay on after the test. Low oil, check engine, and water temp remain on until the motor cools and then it starts back up, runs until warm again the repeats. Twice I have been at the Evinrude dealer already and they first trouble shot this to a new impeller. Well we replaced that, still the same issue, back to the shop. Then they replaced the complete waterpump housing( dont know why they didnt do that the first time) stating that the housing must have been slightly warped when the first did the impeller and they didnt notice it. They also blew out with both air and water the cooling ports on the block an blew out the water lines to and from the EMM. They said that they did get some debris to come out of the right side of the engine, changed thermostats, and told me thatshould take care of the problem . The computer codes were EMM hot and that is why they did what they did. Well back on the water for the fourth, boat ran about 2 miles from my dock and did the same exact thing as before. I suspect the EMM , but the mechanic says that if it is the EMM, it should not self test ok at startup....I was towed back to within 1/2 mile of my dock and I was able to get the boat running and sped back to the dock before it shutdown again. I made it to the dock still running , so i let it idle and pulled the top water line from the EMM to see if water was being pumped through it, Water was coming out and it seemed to be an OK temp, (not to hot), but the right side of the EMM was VERY hot to the touch. Is there a bypass in the EMM cooling cycle??? The block was not that hot( appeared normal). I shut the engine down to go home and get the trailer, upon return, approx 10 mins, the motor would not start and the three lights were on again after the test. I turned the key on and off abot 4 times(all allowing the test to complete) and on the fourth time the lights cleared and I got it started. Back on the trailer and straight to the sp again..
Is the instrument that shows the warning lights just for display or does it have some control over starting/not starting???? Just trying to figure out if I have a bad cluster and those lights on are causing the EMM to not allow the start. Or is it only the EMM that can be the the "spoiler" and only it turns the lights on. I just want to be sure before I pull the EMM and send it off to DFI if there might be other easier possible fixes,
I have had this engine since new, and only recently have the problems started .. This has been soooo frustrating. I really appreciate all help that can be givin as I am starting to get frustrated with the shop. Problem is they are the only game in town in Tyler Texas, The owner is a family friend, and he is the Fact trained Tech in the area. I just want to be back on the water and have some confidence in the motor.
Sorry to be so long winded, just wanted to give as much detail for troubleshooting as i could. One more thing, With all of those lights on , the motoe wont even as much as try to turn over, but after cooling and the self test passes with no lights, fires right off.
Please help me,
Thanks,
