    Oxygenator livewell Aeration System

I was cleaning out my livewells today and noticed a tremendous build up on the Oxygenator system. It appears to be a deposit like you can get in water pipes. I tried removing and it's as hard as a rock and won't budge. I 'm worried that the screen will become totally plugged and render the system useless. Anyone else had a similar situation or a possible solution?

Is this the Oxymax system - factory installed. Did you get any tooth brushes when you bought the boat or in your packet? They are for cleaning the screens. I have heard others using cleaners to clean the screens. I use the brush to keep them clean. You can also check the Aqua Innovations (Maker of the OxyMax for Skeeter) website or contact them for recommendations: http://www.aquainnovationsinc.com/

Try using some CLR to remove the excess deposits. Cleaning them more often is my recommendation.

Make sure you flush out your livewells real good. CLR will kill your fish and it dose not take much....

Yep, you should have received a toothbrush style cleaning brush with your boat for this purpose.

Also, make sure you are not using livewell chemicals in your livewell with the Oxygenator system. You don't need them with this oxygen system, and the salt causes rapid build-up on the screens. I fill my weigh bag with oxygenated water from the livewell by using my pumpout, and then add a small amount of livewell chemical to the bag, but never put it in the livewell.

They recommend that you brush the screen after each use. The new units require no cleaning.

Where can you buy the Oxygenator system? Any board sponsors on here?
    Thanks, G.

I had to remove mine from the livewells and soak in clr three times but finally got the calcium cleaned out. The older models will draw current if the screens are clogged with calcium, the newer model is self cleaning and has a light to tell when it is on

Heat a gallon or 2 of white vinegar to just warm--not hot-- and pour it in, let it set for a day. It will usually get everything clean. It rinses easy and isn't toxic.

Do you use any kind of additive in the livewell during the day?

Re: Oxygenator livewell Aeration System (flippenstick)

The following is the email response I got after contacting the factory about cleaning my Oxygenator Unit in my LE-21 Legend.

The unit in your livewell did need to be cleaned, starting 3 years ago. We purchased this company in late 2006. Since, we redesigned the oxygenator to be self cleaning, for the exact reason of just what happened to you. Also fisherman have enough maintenance to do and that just added another maintenance item you had to perform. You bought a used boat and didn’t get all the vitals.

The new units also have a green LED light to let you know that the unit has power to it. When it’s running it’s hard to see the nano bubbles of pure oxygen coming off the emitter. To solve your problem, you would need to loosen the Oxygenator by taking off the nut on the back of the live well. Pull the unit into the live well with the wires still attached and place it in a small can (coffee can) with a 50/50 mix of CLR and water or a 8-1 ration of Muriatic acid and 8 parts water. Soak for a half hour and brush off with a nylon brush. This should make the unit like new. Have eye protection and rubber gloves handling this dangerous solutions. It should be as good as new when done. Then just keep a brush handy for now on and clean after a tournament or each week. You should be able to keep up with the calcium build up that will harden on the emitters.

    Good luck.
