    Need help with setup.

Just got the 10 hours needed for breakin on my 200 hp Yamaha V-Max HPDI w/ a PT 25" prop. on a ZX 200. I have a 12" SlideMaster jack plate. Right now I am running with full tanks, gear and another person and getting about 57 mph turning about 5400 rpm's. Does anyone have suggestion on a starting point for set up? Any help would be appreciated.

    It's about 2.5" - 3.0" below pad.

start with moving the jackplate 1/4 inch at a time, keep your eye on the wp and rpms you sould be around 5800 rpms when you get it right?

The wp already bothers me. At WOT the pressure is 12#-13# at best. It ran that way from the dealership. My guage will not even read pressure at idol. I have to look back and see if it is peeing.
What is the best load for my setup. The dealership said to have full tanks all your and your buddy's gear and your buddy and start making adjustments. Does that sound right?

The dealer is right. You should set the boat up running heavy. Sometimes if you set it up light it will run great but when you add extra weight the bow will drop, prop will slip and you will lose a lot performance. Your numbers are low though . First get a good true measurement on you propshaft height.

Try this: park boat on good surface such as carport or garage floor. Use a bubble level to level the trailer, then the cav plate on the motor. Measure from the floor to center of propshat and then from the floor to the pad of the boat. Subtract smaller number from the larger and this will tell you exactly how far below the pad you are. 3" is a good starting point then you can go up 1/2" to a 1/4" at a time. Go up until one of these things happens: water pressure gets too low or rpms continue to climb but speed does not. Also be careful not to overtrim the motor. Overtrimming will cause prop to slip and speed to drop off. The higher you run the motor on the plate the less trim you will need.

You also need to check to make sure you are getting full pull on the throttle linkage from the Hot Foot. Have someone set in there and mash the Hot Foot all the way to the stop and check the linkage under the cowl to make sure it is opening all the way. This is a common and easily corrected problem.

Last but not least I would try a different prop. I assume that is a PT VMX you are running. A lot of the guys on here have tried them and they tend to be hard to turn. I would borrow a Yammie 25M or a 25 Tempest from somewhere and see what it does. Most dealers or propshops have a few laying around you can test. Good luck on your set-up and keep us posted.

Brian, I also sent you an IM. If you are running a pop-up blocker you will have to turn it off to recieve them on here. You will never see pop-ups on the BBC other than the IMs.

I'll check on the prop(s) first thing on Tues. as shops around here are closed on Sun. and Mon. Which of the props do you think is the best? The Yammie or the Tempest.
I was wondering how I was going to get an accurate meas. on prop height. It helps to talk with you guys.
Will check the linkage first thing tomorrow.
I'll get back with you and let you know about the prop.
    Thanks.

My first choice would be a 25M but if you can't find one a 25 Tempest should be fine too.
