    Screws backing out?

I bought a 05 ZX225 team boat a few weeks back. Last night I noticed that the plate that holding the oil reservoir and the battery charger only had one screw (half way backed out) holding it down. When I looked closer only one battery trey was still bolted down. They had been bolted down, the screws had stripped loose and in one hole the floor seemed mushy. After I saw this I noticed in one of the rod boxes that one of the walls was coming down (screws backed out).

My question is: Do other owners have this same problem? What would yall do to fix it?

I had the rear wall of my rod locker screws back out on my ZX225, along with some hardware in the bilge area.

With all the vibration that goes along with running a high performance boat, these things will happen. You just need to keep a close eye on things and do the silicone deal to keep your adjustments in place.

    Re: Screws backing out? (TMATTE)

I went around the boat the other day with my screw driver and screw everything. I did have a some screws that were loose but not to the point of backing out.

A little 5 minute epoxy works wonders for this problem. I prefer this over the silicone.

Thanks. I just wanted to see if anybody else was having this problem. My main concern was the weak spot in the wood in the bilge area.

Skeeter's do not have wood in the bilge area. I would epoxy screws back this will allow them to bond to the existing fiberglass or I would epoxy holes and redrill.

Not down there but they do have wood in the boat. Seen it myself while re-routing my aqua innovations wires on mine. Yeah, I was very surprised.

The only wood in my bilge area is the piece that goes between the gas tank and livewells. It streches all the way across. That's what the tank is screwed to. Also, the walls of the rod box is ply wood.

I dont think I would epoxy them in, should you ever need to be able to get underneath that area (pumps, tubing, tranducer etc.) you might find it problematic! I would go with filling the holes with some sort of putty or bonding paste, then redrill and screw in. (could jam some tooth picks in there with wood glue, let it set up then put screws back in?) or you fill the holes and slide plate forward or back a little and put new screws in?

A small amount of epoxy isn't a problem. A little dab on the tip of the screw will do the job.

    Re: Screws backing out? (PSM207)

The problem I have is thea place about 5 inches by 10 inches of the fiberglass mat is soaking wet. I have not figured out how to dry it good enough to fix it. I have some Marine Tex I am going to try. I put bigger screws in the plate that holds the charger/oil res but it pulled out the next day. I just find it weird that the boat is a year and a month old and is having these sort of problems

Something don't sound right about the water being in flotation i would take it to a good fiberglass shop and check it for a crack somewhere
