One Tire Wearing on Single Axle Trailer?

I have a 2005 TZX190 with a single axle trailer, 10 months old. I noticed one of my tires wearing badly on the outside, tire on the other side still looks new. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I talk to the dealer or Skeeter?

HOW ARE YOU TRAILING THE ENGINE? DO YOU HAVE THE STEERING TURNED ONE WAY OR THE OTHER, RATHER THEN HAVING THE ENGINE STRAIGHT? ALSO THE SPINDEL COULD BE BAD ON THE SIDE THAT IS WEARING AND YOU SHOULD HAVE IT LOOKED AT.

I keep the motor straight when trailering with transom saver. I guess I should contact the dealer to have it looked at.

make sure you're keeping 50 psi in the tires. If you let them drop, you'll notice wearing on the outside edge and those Marathon's aren't cheap to replace.

Something is wrong with the spindle or the bearings on that wheel. You are correct that it needs to go back to the dealer as soon as possible. The tires on my last single axle trailer lasted 9 years and I replaced them due to dry rot and not wear. With proper air pressure (50#) those marathons should last a long time.

If it's wearing only on one side of the tire you have a spindle that is not aligned. See the dealer.

I dont like the sound of that, I have one thats doing the same thing on my Skeeter single axle tralier. Its only a year old and the outside of my pasenger side tire is showing a lot of premature wear. I do know that when it first started wearing I checked my air pressure and it was low, so I played it off as that. Just noticed the last week or so its wearing more. Maybe I need to recheck the pressure, but sounds like I might should take it to my dealer and see whats up.

Low pressure will show signs of wear on both sides of the tire, only one side reflects a trailer problem. Sometimes if the axle is not true you can also have a wear pattern on one side, but the other tire will also show signs of wear opposite the first one. Have you posted this on the trailer board? Might get some more help there.

Talked to the dealer, they said bring it in and they would figure out what is wrong and order the parts. He said something had to be wrong to just be wearing on one side. Hopefully they can get it straight. Will post when I find out exactly what the problem is.

Had the same problem with my trailer. TZX190/single axle. Boat driverside tire wore the outside 1-2inches. Took it to a trialer place and they checked the trailer every which way for alignment and could find nothing at all misaligned. I too run mine the first several months with around 35-40 pounds air pressure. I replaced just that one tire and have been running it ever since and have noticed no wear as of yet. 2-3 months. Until I know further Im gonna blame it on a bad place in the tire during manufacture.

I have a 2004 tzx 190 and i have worn out all three tires on the outside on the boat driver side of my trailor. I have been rotating them from one side to the other, it appears that the spindle was welded on at an angle. I did not think it was a big deal until I bought a new tire which cost $122.00, I think I will get it repaired now before the next one wears out.

Only can say.... when the EZ Loader trailer rep-mechanic was asked about air pressure he was quick to say..."if its 50psi on the tire, get it to 47-48psi (at about 70 degrees outside) and keep it there"...
so many guys check air by sight or once a year... this is a huge mistake... which will leave deep financial scars on your wallet.

Re: One Tire Wearing on Single Axle Trailer? (reelman)

This is my second single axle boat trailer that has had odd wear patterns on the passenger side tire. Talked to a crusty old tire guy, and he said not to worry about it too much. According to this guy, it's very common for the passenger side trailer tires to wear like that. Apparently it's from running that tire in the ditch, on the curb, on the shoulder, etc. That doesn't happen on left turns, only right. He checked my alignment anyway, and it was OK. Kinda makes sense............
