Monthly tackle box subscriptions (your opinion and reply needed for idea)

    Hey Guys.

Wanted to to get some feedback from those who have or in the past have had a monthly tackle box subscription(s).
I myself have had mystery tackle box and would say it was ok to average. The concept is cool but felt that the tackle was random, color selection very basic and nothing new that I have not seen or used.
Like many subscription boxes out in the market, many include and provide "sample product" which is a no cost item provided to the company to try include, sell, and market as part of the box.

The question I have for you is would a monthly tackle box subscription focused on the following criterias be of intrest to join.

-Focus is 100% on smaller businesses (custom hand poured baits, custom jigs, lures, bladed baits companies etc.)
-All made right here in the USA (Focus is to grow small business entrepreneurs.)
-Cost of box is equal or less than monthly subscription cost.
-Selection of baits focused on your fishing style and preference.
-Subscription companies main focus is customer service with hassle free subscription management.
-Business concept would be quality vs. quantity.

Your feedback and and comments are greatly appreciated.

I'd pay more if the box came with a magazine with tips for that box of baits.

Example would be jigs. Have a magazine about different retrieves, locations, etc on that lure. Most probably know most of it but it's always a good refresher..

I was given a subscription for Christmas and got my first box last week. It was alright it had a lucky craft jerkbait and a nice Omega jig both of which I will use. The others stuff was just so so. If there was a local/small manufactured option I think I would try it.

Prior to the internet, I think the business model was better.

With the internet, we can search and find new baits/companies much easier.

So far I've received 2 LTBs and 2 MTBs. I haven't been dissatisfied with either one. All 4 have had a couple big name baits (live target, Lucky Craft), and some smaller brands of things I've never heard of before. A lot of these boxes are catering to smaller businesses already because it's a way for the small guys to get their baits in a lot of peoples' hands. Next month I'm getting the upgraded boxes for both, which have full size (not sample packs) of plastics for a few bucks more. I don't think they are a bad deal, and a good way to get some different stuff you wouldn't normally try, so having a choice in the "fishing style" kind of works against it, for me.

Not saying it's a bad deal but I have enough stuff now I'll never use, no need for more.

I got a subscription to Tacklegrab last Christmas. I got the first box in January - OK product, but not what my profile indicated. Second box in April - yup, 3 months later and the items were even more obscure and that was the LAST box I got. They declared bankruptcy in November 2015 and I am part of the class action to get my $100 back. You can get the same stuff by going to a clearance bin at BPS.

I have thought about trying the boxes. My wife kinda does the same thing with her makeup. I just never have pulled the trigger on doing it. On the flip side tho I have read a lot of bad reviews but I tend to take them with a grain of salt until I experience something wrong.

The idea behind those boxes is to introduce people to new baits so they can purchase more in the future. The problem with small or local bait companies is finding their products and ordering more. Some companies have a decent website but many do not. Also, small businesses have problems providing enough product. MTB sends out A LOT of boxes and small hand pour companies just can't fill orders that big even when they get paid... not a chance they'll do it for free.

I would rather take the monthly cost and buy something I know I would use.

Sorry to be so literal, but I am always turned off by statements like that. We all know the company's main focus is to make money.

I never backlash, but each time I go fishing I practice fixing them, just in case I ever do really backlash.
