    water pump ejection

I recently bought a boat with a 1977 Johnson 85 hp motor. I changed the water pump and after starting it up, I still cannot see any water ejecting anywhere. This motor does not have the normal pee hole on the bottom of the lower cover like what I am use to seeing. I called a local Johnson dealer to see where the water should be ejecting from and he told me that it really dosent have a ejection port like other motors and that it will be coming out of the lower foot. Does this sound right to anyone else? I dosent to me.

That engine does not have the overboard discharge (pee hole) like the newer motors, the water runs out through the prop hub.

Thanks for the reply. I have to wonder why Johnson would do that. Without seeing it, how can you be sure the pump is working and keeping your engine cool. I know there is a warning horn but I like to be able to see it just for a piece of mind.

In the old days no John/Rude had the overboard discharge.

My 78 85 hp Johnson didn't have one either, but you can buy a kit and install one. It's really simple!!
