Just picked up a new to me 06 Z21..seem like the live well pumps are loud.....is that common? or should you have to open up the live well box and see if water is pumping?

Mine started to squeal as they got older. You should be able to hear them but it's more like a quiet humming. It will sound different on the trailer than in the water though. They're easy to swap out if you need to replace them.
they didn't squeal or anything but you had to talk load over them...they seemed noisy
I had one last week that kept blowing a fuse, then it got noisy(loud), then it got replaced! 20-30 bucks and 5 minutes of labor.
ya there cheap enough i just got this boat so i have no idea what they should sound like but like i said before they seemed LOAD.....best to replace them i guess and use the others for backup @ only 20 bucks a crack from ranger
they are a little louder when out the water. but when in the water you should barely here if at front the boat.
they where loud in the water & i had to talk loud over them......time for a few fresh ones i think?
My '98 has the original pumps, Mayfair 750 gph cartridge motors, no pump noise. Have to open livewell to make sure they're running!
If you have to talk loud while they are running, something is not right. You should have to listen really close or raise lid to see if they are running.
yep my thoughts...i bet the pumps are bad the boat had been sitting for a while with no use
Mine kept blowing a fuse as well. It ending up being a very small piece of shell had worked it's way into the blade area and it was binding it. I took it out and has worked fine ever since. If your screens ever come off small pieces of matter can get in there to it. Just a thought.
Have a good one and thank God for it!![]()
ill look into that tanks for the tip
Boats around that age are notorious for having crappy pumps....they used a Rule 750gph pump until about 08 or 09 models. I always carried 2 or 3 spare cartridges I had so much trouble with them. You will probably need to replace them. Best bet is to change over to the Rule 800gph pumps, I did this over the winter, no problems yet.
While you're back there, check and make sure the bilge pumps are working good![]()
