    '98 461VS setup

A friend of mine just got a 461VS. We set it up with his Yamaha 150 Vmax at 3.5" below pad. Yesterday was his first outing with it and he said when coming off plane, he was afraid the backwash was going to come over the top of his motor. Is this caused by the built-in setback of this model boat (he also has a 6" jackplate) or is the motor set too high or too low? Any ideas?

The stern low attitude is probably magnified by the jack plate on top of the built in setback. I wouldn't worry about it unless the water actually does swamp the motor. There isn't much you can do about it anyway unless you remove the jack plate, but it is nice having that adjustability.

............tell your bud that all is fine and pad to center shaft is fine....................He needs to give the boat a little gass when settling down in water .....................learning how to drive a boat takes time.......................RR

That year and model 461 was advertised as no backwash and mine doesnt. Gradually slowdown.

Thanks guys. I talked to him again and he was just worried that water would get to his motor since it appeared to be coming up over the lower pan when he was stopping. He wasn't getting any water into the boat itself.
