    492 setup

Posted the other about a 492 that I was looking at. Now I'm wondering if I'm gonna need a jackplate and how much it would help? What size jackplate? The motor is a 225efi. I've always had a jackplate on my boats but never owned a ranger before so was wondering about it. Thanks

    Re: 492 setup (#1clemsonfan)

I had a 6" jack plate on my 492VS and it made a big difference. 25P trophy A45 prop worked by Mark Croxton had me running 67.3mph GPS with the 225efi. Drove like a Cadillac with the jack plate. Of course when I went to the Simon Motorsports 335hp EFI and a 27p Tempest A45 worked by Mark I saw a best ever of 76.4mph GPS. Any other questions about the 492VS ask me and I can answer them for you.... Mark

    Re: 492 setup (#1clemsonfan)

I run a 1996 Ranger 492vs. I have a'98 mercury 225 with a CMC hydraulic jack plate. Bravo1 24p with holes drilled by Mark Croxton is best hole shot ,followed by a stock Big Tube Trophy 24P. B & B Trophy Plus 24P is fastest and most efficient as to slip. Tempest Plus and Fury had good bow lift but higher slip numbers. 3.25" below seemed to work the best for me. All tests were at 4,000' above sea level. My boat is heavy, 4 31 series TM batteries. The motor has some mods.
