    Re: Cool Hub question??? (z71-z19)

Here is the new style hub that MET was describing.

They do not look like that. Those are the ones I have now. The picture Ranger sent me of the new model, appears to have a clear site window. Apparently they are loaded with a grease, that becomes more viscous as they heat up. If I knew how to post pix, I would post it here. sorry.

Just noticed in Jedibasser's post. Actually the lubricant will become less viscous, allowing it to flow through the bearings.
Carlos when you got your new axle did it come with the new hubs?

    Re: Cool Hub question??? (MET)

OK, some clarification. The picture that Ranger sent with the amber site window is not a picture of the new hubs. The new hubs have a black center and a black plug. The picture Greg posted is apparently an accurate representation.

I have 4 sets of bearings, 4 inner seals and 4 cap seals that I have had a s spares for a while. When I spoke with Ranger, I asked if I bought the new hubs, if I could send back all of the parts I was holding as spares, and was told nope. I had 7-14 days to return merchandise, so I am just going to replace bearings (precaution), inner seals and cap seals. I thought that was odd, but I didn't want to spend $300 on new hubs, and be left holding 50-75 dollars in parts I can't use.

Do I pack the bearings with grease when I replace, or just let the 50 wt oil lube them I put new oil in?

Also, do I use any kind of sealant on the inner seal or cap seal when I replace?

Thanks for all of the help.

No Sir. The new axle came with the same hubs that were standard on it when it was new. The black plug ones.

Michael, if u are going to use grease which is ok then yes pack those bearing, if u decide to use oil then u will not pack the bearing with grease, the oil will do the job.

Can somone please post a picture of the NEW style hub. When did you purchase it? Lets get a timeline.

IS It filled with Grease, GRease that MELTS, or OIL. What is the BRAND NAME or what is printed on the hub.

Actually that black one with black plug is not NEW. That is the one that started being used in 08-09 I believe. The newest one that I think Ranger just started using is the Vortex one that I posted a link to earlier. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but it is my understanding that Ranger has gone to this style this year to replace the oil bath hubs. The one with the black plug and no sight glass is no better, IMO, than the old ones. I burned up 2 of those on my old Z20. My 09 Z520 has same ones and I am gonna look into switching them to the vortex sealed grease style in the future.

I just recieved the vortex style hubs in the mail last week and will be switching out my oil baths.

    Re: Cool Hub question??? (ComancheBlackBear)

Walter, did you get these from Ranger? I was told today that they weren't an option on my 2006 Z trailer.

I am getting so frustrated at the lack of a definitive answer.

I was told by Ranger TODAY, that they are using the VAULT system on the new trailers, and rebuilding my existing Turbo Lube system was my only option, becuse no other system they use would work on my 2006.

I REALLY would like some accurate information from somebody at Ranger that has a clue.

This is the first time in many years that I can't get some direction from them.

    Frustrating to say the least.

    Thanks

At this point if they say the new ones will not bolt right up, pack yours with grease. I've had buddies do it and not a lick of trouble.

Walter, do yo have brakes on your trailer? Perhaps that is why they might not work on mine? I have brakes on all 4 hubs.

I guess I will call Rodney Monday and get some answers.

Will keep everyone posted. Thanks for all of the help.

    Re: Cool Hub question??? (MET)

I have an 05 Z20 on Ranger Trailer, with oil hubs. Checked with Ranger technician who explained that my trailer cannot accept the new sealed grease hubs.

    Response:

"The spindles on your current hubs are not drilled to allow the grease to be pumped into the hub so you would have to hand pack the bearings and hubs. Unfortunately, the hubs we use today will not fit your trailer."

    Hope this help others.

Why couldn't you change the whole assembly, spindle and all? Do you have the torsion axles? If so, it's no big deal to change spindle and all.

Thanks for the suggestion. That would be an option when the time comes. I've been fortunate so far with the oil hubs, which are still functioning well.

Yes I have brakes. The spindle assembly comes all in one piece.

    Re: Cool Hub question??? (ComancheBlackBear)

Walter, got any pics of the new vortex ones they sent you? I assume it comes just like the old ones, spindle, rotor, hub all together? Yeah, I know it seems like always confusion when you call ranger for hubs. I got sent the wrong one twice before they finally got me the right one to fit my trailer one time. I never messed with the seals before, just change the whole assembly out. I've gotten pretty fast at it!!

    Re: Cool Hub question??? (ComancheBlackBear)

    ComancheBlackBear!!

    THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!

That is exactly what i want. 4 of those hubs with spindles. I want to unbolt what I have now, and bolt that on.

    Why is this so hard?

Can I ask how much they were with the spindles?

    Thanks,
