z521 with 250 etec; what's she runnin?

Looking at a used z521 boat here on BBC as an option and would prefer a Merc ProXS but for the right price would consider an etec. What's that boat gonna do with that motor on it performance wise? Please don't say blow a power head! Been there with my SHO already.....

Rodney is the expert but between 70 and 73 loaded depending on prop. Likely 72 ish on average. I know you had a 721 and it is a different ride, not sayin better or worse just different.

Yep, I know it won't run with the 721 I just sold. Just as you mention; not better or worse; just different. Want to know what to expect if I go this route is all based on what you guys who have run these rigs are seeing. No decisions have been made at all yet.

I have a 2011 Z521 with Etec 250 with a 24 in Raker II. 2 people, fishing gear, 1/2 tanks of gas I can get 72 - 73. Real good bow lift. I don't run it wide open very often so I'm still trying to learn the magic trim sweet spot. When I do hit the right spot at 5500 rpm it runs 70. Love how quiet the Etec is.

Thanks. That's a great point you made; the prop.

Wondering what the right one is (24p or 25p) on the etec? Seems to be the 25p Fury or 26p Tempest plus on the ProXS, and the 25p T1 on the SHO, etc. Did you try different prop pitches?

If he is running a 24 Raker, probably has the older lower unit on the BRP. I think the new ones are using the 26 raker, but someone else will have to chime in.

There is a lot of talk on props with the new M2 gearcase in the evinrude forum. If he is running a 24 prop then he has the Lightning gear case which BRP has recalled. The new M2 is geared different and with the recall, they are replacing the 24 prop with a 26.

I am running the Lighting gear case and do not plan on swapping it out. I have not run any other prop this ones works fine. I am thinking about sending it to Mark to have it Blue Printed and Balanced. I do know they use the 26p Raker II on the M2 gear case because of the different gear ratio.

I have sold three 2011 models and they vary from 71 loaded to 73 loaded, depending on weight in the bow and set up. We have a pro staff guy whos would run 73.9 with my fat butt, two tanks of fuel , one guy about 195 pounds and very little tackle in the bow. They are very weight sensive in those front compartments, be sure to put all your heavy tackle in the rear some where for best performance.

Personally i like the Lighting gear case better my self, seems to handle a little better and packs a heavy load a little better, other guys may disagree with that though.
