    New Cranking Battery

I'm getting ready to replace the Interstate 27M cranking battery in my Z118, and my battery of choice is the Die Hard PM-1. I really like the extra capacity it will bring me, but I am a little hesitant because of the weight. The PM-1 weighs 75 lbs. and the current Interstate weighs 54 lbs.

I'm 250 lbs (but not 6'5"), and I'm happy with the performance even with my fat butt sitting behind the console, but I worry that another 26 lbs. of battery sitting right behind me might hurt more than help.

Has anyone added a much heavier cranking battery to a Z118, 188, 185 or similar size boat? Any thoughts on whether this is a good idea?

One final question.......I'm going to have to pull the oil reservoir to get to the battery, and it might be a while - maybe even the next day - before I will have the new battery in and connected. I assume that the data stored in the outboard is saved somehow while the battery is disconnected, but I don't know how long I may have before the connection is made again. Anyone know if it will be a problem to have power disconnected from the Pro XS for a day or more? I know it won't hurt it, I just don't want to lose whatever data it is holding.

Thanks for your thoughts on this.

I put the Odyssey battery (same as PM1) in my Z-20 and dumped that Interstate as it was getting weak. I didn't notice the extra weight. I think you notice the weight less since it is in the back of the boat.

The Pro XS does not have memory that is dependent on having power connected. No problems leaving it disconnected.

Thanks everyone. Looks like I will be good to go with this battery. I appreciate your responses.
