Trying to decide on Next boat

I am looking at a couple used boats and have basically narrowed it down to two. One is a great condition 521VX and one is a good conditon Z21. Both are very close in price. The 521 has about 150 hrs on a 250 HPDI and the Z21 has 240hrs on a 250 Pro XS. I haven't had either of these boats so im looking for feedback as to the best option. Neither has any engine warranty so that is no a factor. What kind of speed could I expect out of each of them?

My 521 will run about 71-73mph with the HPDI. The Z-21 should run about the same with the Pro XS. You really can't go wrong with either boat.

it comes down to rails or no rails. These are similar boats in design I think the 521 is a fast hull that requires a little more driving at top end and Z boat is a point and shoot hull, just a few mph slower. Both are great boats but it comes down to what you like best. I would choose the 521 if it is in better condition.

The 521's can't be beat. I simply don't like the Z20 and Z21's latch system......I never can figure out which latch goes to which lid.....annoying to me.

I have a 04 521. I absolutely love it. I would rather have the Merc, but I like the 500 series much better than the Z series. If I could afford it the Z521 has to be one of, if not the best boat ever. Either way they are both Rangers, no wrong answer. jim

Is the 521 a couple of years older? I wouldn't let that sway me. I think it is a better riding hull and its got a Yamaha! Probly use more oil, but that would be my choice

Re: Trying to decide on Next boat (reelmin5)

I have a 04 521 w/pro xs 250 this is with out question one of the best fishing platforms on the water. I have a good friend with the Z21 w/250 pro xs also love this boat but for me I don't care for the rail system. The 2 big difference I see in them is 1 if you are tall or large the console on the 521 may be tight for you. The Z21 has much more room for getting up and down from behind the wheel. I'm 5'10 200 and my 521 is no problem. Also the livewell is 2in deeper on the Z21. I wish the 521 was deeper 25 pounds in one side is very tight. They both run around same speed not enough difference to worry about. I would love to have a new Z521 but the prices just make me love mine more.

I have a 521vx and absolutely love it. I have fished out of "Z" series boats in the past and the 521 offers a much better platform to fish from...

Same here that the Merc would make my decision plus you mentioned the boat is in better shape I do not like the rail latch system on the Z boats but I think the new Z boats do not have the rails (but I could be wrong>)

Re: Trying to decide on Next boat (STRETCH1)

Rodney hates the Z21...so you know what you will get when you ask. I know I'll get bashed but I went to look at a couple of boats at Jet-A sure won't go back. VERY VERY arrogant. I have an 08 Z21 with a Mercury Pro XS 250 and love it. But if you find RR making a positive comment on a Z21 it would surprise me.
